I think the plate bikini’s should stay! If anything male characters should have plate mankini counterparts added. Please petition Bliz for plate mankini’s. Get with the times - male characters deserve to be sexualised too!
I think even the bluest of hair at Blizzard knows the blizzard waifus bring in people. I don’t think it’s going away.
Though that thread from a couple months ago asking for Slave Pens to be renamed to Subjugation Pens seems like a lot less of a joke now. Look for the stupidest of changes like that
Bliz are saving face. In the wake of serious allegations amounting (if proven true) to real instances of sexual assault and misogyny, they’re now going to have a wave of tokenistic and ultimately ridiculous changes to the game.
Eh. I’m not gonna look for things to be annoyed by. Got enough to be annoyed by that actually happens without borrowing trouble, so to speak.
Plus I doubt they’ll go that far. Leaving aside that some of the in-game lore is heavily built around the villains enslaving various races, there’s the simple fact that removing any reference to it would be a lot of work and Activision is nothing if not cheap.
Easier to go after low-hanging fruit. Again, Afrasiabi’s cameos are toast. Easy to rename a handful of NPCs and declare “we cut ties with this dude we let act like this for 20 years, we’re cool now”.
Pretty much how it goes, a few easy to implement tokenistic and ultimately irritating changes to try and pretend they’re not the same company that had cubicle crawls …
Is it the end of the world? No, but it’s cringeworthy.
I don’t even find those changes irritating really. I don’t care if some jackass has their cameos renamed. I’ve seen player names changed before for similar stuff. Not like any of Afrasiabi’s characters are even memorable.
Ultimately, no company that’s publicly traded cares about ethics beyond it potentially hurting business. A publicly traded company exists to make money for shareholders. Full stop.
CEOs that prioritize ethics over profits tend to be replaced.
Lol, because in-game references is the problem here.
I find them cringeworthy because it’s easy to see right through them.
At the end of the day Blizard is more embarrassed than remorseful. As you say, they care about the Dollars and Dimes.
sir this is an mmorpg forum…
They are literally going to remove bikinis that have been in the game for 17 years before they make actual gameplay changes. What a joke
They should do all these planned dialogue changes, but restore Garrosh’ line where he called Sylvanas a b!tch. Then I’d say we’re even.
Keep your 4chan fanfiction on 4chan.
Huh, looks kinda like they are trying to erase the past and sell the private servers.
What happened at Blizzard HQ wasn’t cool, but blizzard is now acting just as badly in good faith. How interesting.
I have played every MMORPG that has ever been released.
I think it is quite telling that Blizzard is the ONLY company to ever even have to attempt this kind of damage control.
So now our $15 a month is paying for blizzard to do PC damage control instead of actual game development. Maybe it is time for all of us to move on and just let them bankrupt.
Its just virtue signaling of the worst kind.
Meanwhile on Twitch in the hot tubs section…
Well objectifying real women is fine. It’s when we start insulting fictional characters when things get dicey.
They’re probably just going to remove references to employees that turned out to be predators.
Afrasabi comes to mind.
That’s what I think. I didn’t even know they named an NPC after him but apparently players were gathering en masse to /spit on him.
I like older games because they were made before SJWs infected the industry and now contaminate design. Sadly Blizzard is allowing it to influence their older games. Really sad. I could care less what they change with retail. But keep unwanted political nonsense OUT of our classic games.
