MoP/WoD/SL PvP Model

PvP Gear
Honor gear

  • 7? Ranks - 200 - 245 PvP (245 top rank, with no time-gating)
** Honor cost per rank is still kind of high
  • 220? PvE

Conquest gear

  • 1 Rank - 259 PvP
  • 230? PvE

The gear can scale to the ilvls above for PvP but is very flexible when it comes to the PvE ilvl, as PvP gear is not, nor should it be BiS for PvE anyways. PvE ilvl is not something I would try to recommend. The scaling of honor gear is a good idea, gives that progression, but the end of that grind needs to be at 245ish to make it worth it.

Benefits

  • Filthy casual players can still obtain a 245 ilvl and don’t have a 30-70 ilvl disadvantage in random bgs where they want to enjoy spending their time.
  • Casual rated players can still eventually get BiS since they were no more rating gating (imo, the worst part of gearing, high-rated players don’t need a gear advantage). When I’m still 1500, that’s on me now but at least I am not at a disadvantage every game so that I feel like I’m beating my head on the wall.
  • Rated players still gets power creep from 245-259 instead of 220-259. (rating increases conquest earned like MoP) and power creep from grinding renoun, conduits, etc.

Rating motivation has never been a gear advantage in PvP. MoP only had like an equivalent of 3 current ilvl difference between honor and conquest gear. Let’s review the above changes and their potential effect on the ladder.

  • The volume of casuals in arenas may autamatically increase as they won’t be run over quite as fast due to us fixing the gear gap.
  • More casual rated players as they aren’t constantly fighting gatekeepers, etc that have sometimes substantial ilvl advantages.
  • Alt friendly as this X-pac can get for PvPers. We have to do lots of PvE already for player power (also part of the power creep that some think is quite important). At least this will make our PvP gear accessible so once we do finish our homework on alts, we can throw it down.

I’m sure we can come up with some other ways to drive the thirst for rating. Glad titles, mounts, feats of strength, and general competitiveness of us PvPers in general already provide a lot of rating thirst, but what about

  • X-mog - A good place to start, almost everyone can get thirsty for a sick (mage tower level) x-mog. I also see lots who love tabards, etc. I know you guys can make some awesome stuff, class specific (not armor class…). themed, I want them Lock shoulders with skulls on spikes that are glowing with green fire now or something c’mon.
  • You can add patterns that are obtainable at different rating thresholds. These patterns can be good for the economy, allowing people to make gold, or make them stand out like mounts (still love the panthers), more cool x-mog options, toys (who doesn’t love toys), maybe even pets (I don’t pet stuff but I’m sure there are mechanical ones engineers can make or something) for those pet battler/collector.

Idk :sleepy:

yeah all of this makes sense

makes too much sense actually

thats why we’ll never see it in game hehehahahowoowoooowowaohha haha haaha whwoooo

10.0 will fix it

if i could gear alts easy and the game not be stupid and dumb i’d play so many things and play more often, makes me wish a dev could see this post and my comment but they wont so gg

also gear should just COME WITH SOCKETS ON IT instead of doing this mind numbing mega time gated rep grind

Imagine giving players an actual reason to play the game instead of endless chores. I could never imagine something so awesome!

10.0 will fix it, dont worry… it will just break everything else that wasn’t broken. then we will wait for 11.0 to fix those, then 12.0 will break pvp gear again.

bold of you to assume we’ll get either of those

Blizzard is the type of company that tries to reinvent the wheel. You just cant but they think adding all this extra BS in game is what players like. They’re so far from the truth and knowing what their player base wants that its just sickening.

I don’t think this is the issue. You always need to progress and move forward. We never would have gotten wod gearing without it. I was even excited about templates the way they described them (more frequent balancing and more even games).

The issue is when things don’t work out you need to be able to accept it and go back to something that did. That’s blizzards fatal flaw.

I mean pvers were pretty happy in legion. Even in BFA and sl when all my PvP friends quit or went to tbc. The pvers mostly stuck around.

The problem is they have no high up pvpers able to enact any will on PvP design. Then they keep pushing PvE gearing on us. PvP is not in anyway similar to PvP, and would you look at that, pvpers are tilted.

I agree with everything you posted here. But I have some questions:

  1. What about upgrading your pvp gear? You get ilvl x honor gear but you can upgrade it 2/2 with honor to ilvl y – this isn’t gated behind anything. This would let you get a full set of x faster and then still have a sense of progression for a little while afterwards. This is NOT meant to increase the grind to full honor gear but to make the increases smaller but more frequent. e.g If it takes 20k honor to get ilvl 245 gear in your stated system I suggest 10k honor to get ilvl 233 gear 5k to upgrade this gear to ilvl 239 and 5k more to upgrade to ilvl 245.

2)What are your thoughts on vers, vers + vers amp from pvp trinkets, and pvp gear with a pvp stat? I think the vers heavy gear with the amp from the trinkets is a really good idea but many people who suggest what you’re suggesting want pvp stats back.

I can get behind that, I will update the post. The upgrade system is a good idea and way to bring Slands improvements with old systems together. As long as the “max” ilvl of honor gear is 245 which still keeps them in the game.

I myself do like PvP stats but I think that would make things even more complicated right now. The suggestion we have, could be hotfixed honestly. All they need to do is, make one rank of conquest gear that levels to 259 in PvP and adjut the ranks of honor gear so you max out at the 245 mark that is no longer useless and find a balance for the PvE ilvl.

I agree. And I would add that we want to keep them in the but also get them in the game. I think the time it takes to get the honor gear right now is too long.

I agree, it’s not fun getting stomped in WSG while trying to gear, to have the game end, get 100 honor and still feel so far from the upgrade.

whatever happens in 10.0, if they give us a monetization metric break somewhere they will make it up somewhere else plus some

this game is only headed in one direction and it hasn’t veered in the slightest ever since gold entered the cash shop

if a design does not contribute to average revenue per player they don’t want it and will make the smallest of tweaks or adjustments to offset issues

All these gear threads make me sad. We try raising out hand so uncle Blizzard will help us but I guess it’s time to give up.

Me too…

I just want to log in and pvp.

Sorry but want my current recommended suggestion on my post. I don’t think the extra ranks are necessary and kind of taking away from the system.

My suggestion:

Do not separate PVP and PVE gear item level, just reduce the gear gap. Make PVP gear useful in PVE, Make best PVP gear same level with best PVE gear. In this way, you will lure much more people to come play PVP and revive the PVP. Meanwhile, ban all boosters/gladitor carries, money carries, gold carries. In this way, it will clear those gladitor gate keepers and newbies have a path to go up, let gladitors to play at its own level. If PVE people want to come to learn PVP and get the gear by their own hand instead of buying carries, that’s good for PVP community. Season 1 had so many people play PVP (especiailly RBG)because people come to RBG for the best weapon. It is actually very good.

New Rating Rated PvP Title Item Level
Rank 1 Unranked 239
1400 Rank 2 Combatant 243
1600 Rank 3 Challenger 246
1800 Rank 4 Rival 249
2100 Rank 5 Duelist 252
2400 Rank 6 Elite? 259 (weapon only)

Also, they need separate PVP and PVE vault, like in BFA. that system was much better.

Yeah, that will fail hard.

If PVP gear is easy to get it can’t be useful in PVE, or it ruins the PVE gear acquisition curve.

PvP and PVE gear needs separation, they have almost the exact opposite needs.
