In guild we were discussing Flex raiding, and how deciding between 10 and 25 won’t really matter if Flex is in from the get go. Someone reminded us that Flex wasn’t like it is in Retail now, but it’s own difficulty between LFR and Normal.
Blizz, please consider adding the retail-style Flex to MoP, where it’s not a lesser difficulty, but the same as Normal/Heroic, just where you’re able to bring more or less each week. We’ve seen this work pretty well in SoD, and there’s no reason to think MoP wouldn’t also benefit, given attrition and other game types pulling players away week to week. Having the ability to have a few extra or fewer players week to week would be massive; without having to force guilds to switch to an easier mode, with lesser gear rewards, or just having to cancel raid outright one week.
Flex started only in Soo as a difficulty so it’s not really comparable to what we got nowadays for sure and would probably require a decent amount of work like it was said. But also personally I don’t think making the last difficulty flex would be a good thing as the tuning can make or break some fights as we see sometime with 10m vs 25m.
In SoD I think they made the point that they wanted to focus on the game being easy/casual enough for everyone which led to the decisions they took about difficulty and flex which I understand but that’s also not something everyone is looking forward. I personally like more difficult content (but I also dislike a lot of retail systems).
That’s how it is in retail too, blizzard just renamed the difficulties when they added mythic raiding. Normal is tuned to what flex used to be tuned to when it was released.
The huge tuning difference between 10/25 man is how many people you have to deal with for certain abilities. Which on some fights can make a big difference, but not at flex levels of difficulty.
The bigger issue is that they really wasn’t a 4th gear level until flex was added so that would be a shake up in the earlier tiers.
Going by how things have gone in classic, Flex will not be added until Siege of Orgrimmar.
And you’ll get this in Warlords of Draenor, kind-of.
You’ll get the normal mode we have now re-named to heroic, and enabled to flex.
The flex difficulty added in Siege of Orgrimmar will be re-named to normal.
The heroic mode we have now will be converted to fixed 20 player mythic.
The big difference is that 10 and 25m were difficulties for the last difficulty but the same problem affect flex it simply matters less when the difficulty is less. Many bosses historically were easier to beat with a certain number and they often have tried to balance this more moreover when it let’s you have even bigger groups than 25m.
Also for me if they ever added flex sooner it would be by making normal flex not add a difficulty which I think would make more sense.
My guy, you’re asking a dev team that irreparably borked LFR to rebalance every single raid in MoP for flexing raid size between 10 and 30 people. It’s just not happening.
honestly they should just scrap what normal is today and make it how retail is. Basically flex. Normal should be flex. Heroic should be coordinated groups.
ewwww NO!!! 10man raiding is trash!! Why should the people who can actually get 25 man raid groups togehter suffer? Its bad enough that when SoO Luanches mythic will be released and that will cut the roster down from 25 to 20 so your going to be cutting 20% of your roster.
Flex raiding was introduced with SoO, so it would be smart for Blizzard to release Mythic at the same time, given that we are receiving the final pre-patch WoD build at MoP launch. Therefore, Blizzard not releasing Mythic SoO at the launch of SoO or shortly thereafter with the introduction of flex raiding would make sense.
If we were getting WoD prepatch at the launch of MoP. Tanks would have way less health than they do now in Dragon Soul since the prepatch also introduced the stat squish.
