I’ve been on WRA since 2011 and absent from the game for over a decade. Recently returned to play Dragonflight and enjoyed it. I purchased the next Xpac and started getting acquainted with all the missed content. Been considering a small change of scenery. Is playing on Moonguard as Horde worth it? Or is it moretheless one in the same experience as one can expect on WRA. I only want to move off WRA if there is a reason to do so. What is your honest take on playing as Horde on Moonguard? My other 3 toons are on Tichcondrius so Sadgati just goes cross-realm for group PVP stuff.
Hello! I play on MG Horde. RP wise it is active. Won’t find much walk rp. Most RP is guild driven. So you would have to join a guild like War Wolves, Undercity Nexus, Stormtalon Tribe, or Order of the Lynx. Some others but not as active as the ones I listed. Small population that is slowly growing. You probably won’t find many themes like on WRA.
RP wise it isn’t as “active” in terms of walk ups. There are events IC and OOC that are advertised mostly via discord.
That said they are some very passionate people. They have crafted a world and care so deeply about it. Go to them. They will love to have you. I would love to have you. Add Kanokkhan.
That’s not to say WRA isn’t good too. I main my Paladin here. Found a nice little home for him among the Wolfmane. It doesn’t hurt to double dip.
Another thing to keep in mind with cross server guilds and whatnot and the fact there’s already a lot of crossover between the two servers which one you are on specifically is less relevant than ever before. Both communities have their strengths and weaknesses, and if you look for drama it’s there.
I’ve been horde MG and had mixed experiences but the good ones were really good. I tend to find WRA more my speed.
I’ve had bad experiences over on MG Horde. On the surface there is a lot of cool events and such. I was actually tempted to move my guild over there for a time. If only slightly. As a guild leader I was invited into a space for Guild Leaders and officers.
As time went on I got to see the rot that is often hidden from the masses. Lots of back stabbing and throwing around false accusations with no proof. Not to mention folks that go WAAAYYY over board with their faction fervor. That was not exclusive to the Horde either.
I saw some cases where Alliance would make Horde alts and play them during big multi-guild events and do stuff that Horde were asked not to. Like using Blight. That way they could give reason for them to hate and screech about how awful the opposing faction was. But I also saw cases where neutral characters were harassed by Horde for not being loyal or for not wanting to be apart of the faction.
Last year one of my characters got to be the Tauren racial representative at the Tournament of Ages It was an honor and I did my best to fulfill the role. Did an interview and had my character around the grounds for folks to talk to. However, it made me a target as well. Some folks, whom I had never met before or that knew me, were not happy that my character was the rep and not their’s, even though they made it clear they didn’t know they needed to apply to be considered. I decided I won’t apply again if I am going to be made a target. Figured they would apply and get the chance. Surprisingly I heard that the ToA people need a Tauren rep. Still, I don’t want to apply if it is going to make me a target for hate.
One of my friends and Guildies was curious about MG Horde about a month or two back. She joined a guild with a non-combatant but was told that going to big combat events, like Conquest, was required and that her character “could heal” instead. Even though I know that Conquest has made that sort of thing against their rules, it seems guilds still do it over there.
I was also made aware that a guild leader from MG has had a vendetta against some folks that moved over here and has been pressuring the Guild Leader for those folks here to kick and ban them too. The vendetta was over Rping orcs not as war mongers and some more everyday life sort of stuff.
Now I aim in the Earthen Ring community which is primarily on MG and they are good folks. I have had no problems from them. Note that they are mostly Alliance with some Horde. Despite that, I still find myself nervous and weary of Rping on MG. Particularly on Hordeside.
That is not to say I didn’t have fun over there before all of that stuff. I did make friends, particularly in the later half of BFA and at ToA. Most, however, have moved over to WrA or keep to themselves while staying om MG.
I used to but I can’t recommend that server anymore. I advise being cautious over there, even on Alliance side. I do have folks from MG come to my events and most are welcome to. But the ones I have seen or experienced being not so great, I prefer to keep at arm’s length.
Y’know, I couldn’t tell you if it’s a universally moonguard experience because I’ve never played on the alliance side over there, but hearing your stories does give me thoughts that the “Smaller” factions on each side are extraordinarily cutthroat. If people have bad MG-A experiences, I’ll happily amend it to RPers are extraordinarily cutthroat.
I have played Horde on both Wyrmrest Accord and Moon Guard.
On Wyrmrest Accord, I’ve been stalked, followed around and threatened.
Moon Guard was worse.
For a lot of my friends and I we mostly do MG for Alliance, and WRA for Horde and that seems to be the way most roleplayers do it as well.
WRA-A does have some really amazing and cool people though.
I think with the onset of Warbands and cross-realm guilds the lines will be blurred further. And at least aesthetically, your WRA people will be on the same character list as your MG people.
Also if you like PVP, WRA has more Horde PVP guilds than MG.
Raton knows I have also seen this from MG when in a similar group as he was, but there are some guilds that are great like a few of the examples that were given.
I tried dabbling in Moon Guard role play on Hordeside a little bit as I had a couple friends over there. I quickly realized that folks over there are a lot more… shall we say, “intense” than on Wyrmrest. They’re very concerned about appearances, it feels like, over there. How the rest of the server perceives them. It almost felt like they were treating their role play like they were playing real life politics. It was… really weird, for me.
I guess some people are into that, but it ain’t really for me. I much prefer the more laid back nature of Wyrmrest, where I don’t feel as much pressure. I say that knowing that there’s definitely some bad eggs on Wyrmrest, and I have had the unfortunate experiences of being harassed and stalked here, but even in my short time on Moon Guard, it felt so much more uncomfortable.
But that’s just my experience, and my preferences. I prefer a laid back community, where I can just do whatever makes me happy. I don’t want to feel pressured or forced into certain role plays for the sake of presentation. But, maybe you want the more, intense role play Moon Guard Horde offers? I dunno, I don’t know what you prefer!
Intense is a good word for it. The Horde playstyle over there is (or was) really…aggressive. A lot of those “in-character” bigots where the quotation marks are doing a lot of heavy lifting.
I am very tired of this WRA vs MG vs Alliance vs Horde conversation. Everyone acts that servers of 10s of 1000s of people is represented by only one political project or one race specific guild or one incident when a campaign that didn’t go as other wanted it.
And I interact with many people in many places on many days and can solidly say for every one person in said projects, guilds, or campaign participants, there is 10 others that don’t get involved with any of that. Each example brought up was literally a fraction of the server that, sure at one time was probably big news, but they haven’t been in a long time.
And I know of every single thing you mentioned. All of them. And I will even say that you are completely valid in your feelings on it, and even that they did/do happen. BUT that isn’t everything. And the people that do offer alternatives outside of this weird “Old Guard” mentality that somehow still exists from a few loud mouths and their legion of alts to boost their friends guild numbers keep being hurt. Your comments do nothing against the people you are complaining about. Your comments hurt the 10s of 1000s others that are not involved and are just labeled and bashed for their server of choice of faction or server while they never stepped foot in those other areas.
BOTH servers are so much more.
BOTH factions are so much more.
So the end of the day, THIS is the problem. It isn’t a bunch of hassle that can be easily ignored, its because in the world of online gaming perception is reality. So this becomes the perception. I am sorry this happened to you, I truly am. But lift up the good, we are there on every server and every faction.
Looks around and blinks a few times then raises a tankard of coffee and takes a swig.
Silent majorities are tricky because by their very nature they are quiet.
Can I offer you a cup of coffee? It might make you feel better.
Cheers.
I’d argue that the toxic posititivity and attacking people stating their dislikes or their disagreements is going to do more damage than people openly stating what or how they feel about MG Horde.
Even though I made a Belf Pally and an Orc Warrior on MG and am leveling the latter through Remix, I myself am still wary of MG Horde. As it’s been said in the MG forums, if you want people to see that you’re active, then you need to let them be able to see it.
Perception is reality. If people don’t see that it’s active, then of course it’s going to be dead to them. But if you can twist the perception a bit, then maybe just maybe they’ll see how truly active it is.
But attacking people for having a different opinion or even voicing what their perception is, just isn’t it. You’re doing more damage than what you think. Maybe consider /why/ people are saying it. Could it be that your attitude is showing them that MG is standoffish and not friendly.
Yeah, me too. It is how I have friends that used to play on MG. Some that still do.
Mg-Horde is not that big of a place. It is a very small community and it grows smaller because of the behavior those leading guilds and community that they try to hide. Eventually they show their true colors. The percentage of people that are the problem on much higher partially because it is a smaller population but also because they run off people they feel are competition.
My comments aren’t suppose to hurt the folks I am complaining about. It is to give someone an idea of what I have experienced so they can make they choice for themselves and hopoefully keep an eye out for trouble. I don’t want others to go through what I did and honestly still do. I know that the folks I mentioned are watching me, what I do on WrA, and my guild.
People expressing their experiences are the problem? Really? Not the people going around and treating their members like badges of honor, chasing clout, and backstabbing or making false accusations to get the community to turn on good folks?
Nah, I’d say the primary problem is them and what they do. I have said it so many times in private that MG Horde would be such a great place with all the cool stuff they do on the surface but their reasons and the shady business being hidden in the shadows ruins all of it.
And you aren’t helping anything by blaming the people expressing their experiences with those folks. You are only enabling them.
Maybe on MG Alliance but not on Horde side. That is most of what I am talking about by the way. Just in case you are talking about Alliance side. The past few years I have only seen it grow and get worse. The pond scum infests MG Horde. To the point that any of my friends left over there keep to themselves and don’t interact outside their guild.
Not even a year ago and still ongoing.
No thank you. My participation only made me a target and I have been a target ever since. Not to mention that even if their was any good, the rot will get to it eventually. Like a mold.
That is the other thing. Those folks that were not happy that my character was the racial rep were two faced to me. They approached my character and talked about how honored they were that my character was a great symbol and representative for our characters’ race. Nothing but nice things to say in-character. That was the only interaction as well. Just as I am sure they would have been to me Out of Character. Only to someone they didn’t know was my friend did they really lay into me and why they don’t like me. These folks will shower you in compliments but curse you in private. Not that isn’t common.
And it seems that they are known for it too. They used to be in the friend’s guild that keep to themselves. Caused drama there. Another friend that moved here used to be friends with them but they stabbed him in the back first chance they got.
This is correct, but also some of those guilds are indirectly controlled by Alliance personalities which doesn’t help. My statements were significantly more general. And that was my mistake. You were focused solely on horde, but referencing experiences that could largely be traced back to Alliance influence, and I should have just let it go.
I know I am already holding a short end of a stick because I play in a niche neutral or factionless space, but my horde and alliance members, since we are cross faction and will be cross server, are just lumped in to these experiences.
And we DO advertise, and we DO speak up. But we don’t usually fight. Generally. I am spicy today because I had an amazing last few day with a fishing co-op that seen people come from as “far way” as Hellscream server with a TRP. Another new person that happened upon us that joined in by just watching RP for a while and then downloaded TRP and continued to participate getting into their first RP experience. Tavern last night was a blast, again, with people from all over. We have always been open to all servers and factions for those that wish to RP or learn how. And then seeing stuff like this just feels like it is all for nothing. One step forward, two steps back.
It really hurts that certain people become the flag carriers for our servers. Which ends up with more red flags than a British fortress in the 1600s and they keep getting attention, so everything is always an uphill battle. I am not tyring to be “toxic positivity”. I am tired, boss. I am also not attacking you; you are right and valid. I just wish it was easier.
Now, I’m not sure a conspiracy theory alleging that Horde guilds are being masterminded by Alliance personalities exactly helps the impression of MG-Horde as a treacherous and spooky place.
The Gnome Special Forces around Dun Morogh experimenting on Trolls with those shrink rays…
Now that’s a conspiracy.
Takes another big swig of coffee and smiles.
You sure have a funny way of expressing it. Because from where I’m standing and others are standing you are attacking. You’re giving this funny vibe that everything is sunshine and rainbows much like your friends did in the other thread in the Moon Guard thread. Your “there is no war in Ba Sing Se bit” is a bit underwhelming and can be easily seen through.
Your mention of “alliance involvement” is kind of ironic since if memory serves, weren’t you apart of a big server project as their commerce lead? You ended up leaving for some reason though there were rumors of you attempting to run people off the project as well and other forms of toxicity, which surprise surprise you’re doing now. What’s the saying? A leopard doesn’t change its spots?
The same can be said for your friends whose one guild has a large amount of Alliance members within. You really want to tout the whole “Alliance involvement” conspiracy theory, I think you should try to look yourself in the mirror. The same goes for your friends.
And it’s great that you and your friends are finding success but have you thought that perhaps not everyone is so lucky and priveleged? That maybe without your connections of being a hotshot in a certain Alliance project then perhaps you might not have been so lucky?
Ya’ll created the problem that your facing. Have you thought about maybe it’s time to fix your attitudes and get to the root of the problem. Or maybe it’s time for ya’ll to just take a step back. Maybe finally let new blood cycle in and run things, perhaps a little better. Wouldn’t hurt, right?
