Modern WoW just a slot machine?

That’s not true actually. A lot of old raids (I dono if loot tables were smaller or more loot dropped) but items dropped enough that I could be confident that if I cleared it a bunch of times with the same peeps I would get the item, which seems to not be the case anymore (or at least feels that way)

back in my CE raiding days lol (Cata/mop/WoD) my whole guild got everything they wanted from the raids every season. This is just no longer true, and I would like it to go back to that ideally haha.

something being new is not a reason to dismiss it imo

It’s not being dismissed.

It’s coming back this xpac for s4.

You guys were very lucky and this was not true for other guilds.

Your experience is not an objective fact of how the game actually works.

My experience over 3 expansions? I’m sorry but no one is that lucky…something in the game changed to make this not possible.

Yes.

It’s hard to believe I know.

But the game doesn’t revolve around you and never has.

You were lucky for 3 expansions, there were guilds who were unlucky for 3 expansions.

We haven’t had as much control over our gear in a long, long time.

The combination of the Stones, and crests to upgrade gear, plus the catalyst to make it instant tier. We have a lot of control over the gearing aspects.

At the same time, we can’t cheese content, sending mythic raiders into heroic dungeons for points or bottle caps or whatever. That’s good too.

Also, you can tunnel a content type if you like. Just do X or Y or whatever. You will probably advance bit faster doing other parts of the game, but it’s not required.

And, yea, there’s still an RNG component. But its less because of the upgrade system making lower gear worthwhile for the slot, even if it’s not an immediate upgrade rather than just vendor trash.

I think the law of averages would argue with you there.

It actually supports me.

Your guild of 20 people throughout three expansions IS NOT THE AVERAGE.

Thank you.

Millions of people playing the game lol.

Hence my character’s name:
Variable ratio reinforcement.

“Slot machine,” as a name, would’ve been … crude.

Well this was fun to pass the time over lunch. Thanks for all the feedback, was just slightly more mature that I expected so points for that I suppose. Have a good one!

This game has always been a slot machine, that’s part of the fun.

False. Ninjaing actually meant people who grabbed loot right off the ground when they weren’t supposed to if they didn’t set the loot correctly. Even in vanilla there is a video of someone ninjaing the loot off an Ony run. So for example you kill a boss and all the loot drops and there was no rolls etc. then anyone was able to just take the items even if they couldn’t use them and not allowing the group to do /roll. That is called ninjaing.

How is it if people roll need for a mog/offspec that is called ninjaing to you? They put in the same amount of time and effort as you and if they want those items then they have every right to roll need also.

I swear, the new generation of gamers today love changing meanings of what terms actually meant. From ninjaing to p2w etc.

False. There are many acts that fall under the term of ninjaing. One would be ninjaing a mount without anyone rolling on it, one would be taking an item even if they didnt win…and the other forms of ninjaing are taking items for offspec or transmog or greed when others needed it as an upgrade. The loot in this game was for the vast majority of the time viewed as Upgrades prioritized over anything else, and if someone couldve used the item as an upgrade while someone else took the item for other means it was viewed as a ninja.

Ive been playing WoW since 2006, and have played MMOs in general since 2002. I am not the new generation, it sounds like youre some intermediate generation that wasnt around when ninjaing was a term people used for a vast range of items being taken unfairly.

Well regardless of how it “feels” to you. It’s always been this way. Maybe you’re the one that’s changed, after all it’s been 19 years.

Oh honey. This game has been a slot machine since it’s inception.

If anything it’s gotten better due to different modes of endgame.

except for one meme season, and perhaps when badges were a thing, in all 20 years the game has been around you have never been guaranteed an item.

So wait is determinative gearing something new or is it the way it always was?

Your claims are getting a bit jumbled.

It’s only been 9 years since we’ve had MoP and the shado-pan vendors as raid level vendors though.

Not to mention this complaint of loot slot machine is at least old as Legion, would probably started in WoD if you couldn’t get fully geared from clicking the facebook game.

Blizzard hired casino experts to develop the reward system when they developed the game…old story…
