In light of Augmentation becoming a thing…
The short range for augmentation adds some extra skill to positioning - positioning that is annoying at best or frustrating at worst for preservation. It’s a gimmick that doesn’t add anything to a healer spec.
Dont play it if you hate it. 30y is unique and i hope they will add more of it. Spellbreaker spec for example.
This. I have zero problem with it and while 40yds would be cool, so would 50. They’re clearly committed to the range at this point and it works just fine.
I hate the decreased range as well, I often find myself thinking why does this exist? Just give us a 40 yard range like a normal healer…
The problem is that such a shortcoming should logically be tied to some sort of trade-off benefit, but it’s not…
They are just gimped compared to other ranged for no particular reason and with no perk to make it worthwhile.
Your range is shorter than any other ranged class. Why? Because F* you, that’s why.
I don’t think 40y is required, but 30y certainly is. In fights like the first boss in Neltharion’s Lair if I want to hit the adds behind the boss (boss between tank and me), I have to pretty much stand in melee range in order to hit them, meaning there’s a longer period I can’t move due to shatter
25y is a very awkward range.
Then again, I will not complain about 40y if we do get it, because we’re too squishy for close range, and not mobile enough to keep chasing a long range target. Hover CD is simply too long for that.
Imagine if our legendary weapon was the following:
- Only drops from Mythic Sarkareth and even then a 10% chance.
- Effect: (passive) Converts all evoker spells to 40-yard range.
would be using it through 12.0
Id make it 39yards for preserv and devast, and 26y for aug
No offense but you have this part completely backwards. There’s nothing skillful about pressing one button after another button in an utterly predetermined order. No timing. No consideration. No skill required.
Working with our range, on the other hand, absolutely increases our skill floor and ceiling significantly.
While agree about the 30yds wholeheartedly, it’s frustrating, especially when someone dies out of range and I keep thinking to myself, “I could of saved them as another healer”
But it’s really not much skill, landslide I have as a cast on curser macro, Live and PTR, on PTR as Augmentation it’s simply just pressing two buttons right after eachother, there really isn’t much skill… if anything more an annoyance cause they’ve just really added an extra step to get a stun.
Don’t see it happening in DF, but you never know.
It feels like this is something the devs reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy don’t want to do. It has been one of the most heavily requested changes, and they straight up avoid addressing it any further.
They said they wanted to TrY sOmEtHiNg NeW aNd DifFeReNt with a caster class. The devs are more willing to admit they’re wrong or should reevaluate something nowadays, but I do think they want to try and make us deal with this weird range for the rest of the expansion to see if it “grows on us.”
I think it’s a predictable eventual change that I won’t thank them for. The day it happens, I’ll be tapping my foot and saying, “it’s about time.”
at the moment 30yd range is stupid because blizzard did it half harted. either commit to making mid range and change some other specs to be mid range to or make evokers 40 yds like everyone else. it feels so dumb to be the only ranged class that has to stand in near melee range to do what everyone else can do at 40 yds. its not like evokers have this god like dps to make up for it or the mobility they were sold as having. blizzard is doing what they always do and doubling down on a bad decision before listening to the player base. im hoping before 11.0 the range gets increased or some other classes catch the range nerf especially if there working on making supporters which could work for a mid range play style
People are gonna complain.
I haven’t got into m+ yet(if i ever do), so my opinion on one hand isn’t as “valuable” as those who have.
But we can all agree more distance would be nice yes? Doing quests last night, fighting elites solo i thought " more distance would be nice"… then healing in dungeons i thought “more distance would be nice”…
Then when i logged off my evoker i was like… "that was fun and challenging. " Now let me log on one of the other healers so i can watch TV and play.
I like the change. Change up everyone’s spells. That’s like 5 years worth of people complaining yet still playing right there.
Sorry I forgot to add on my other reply, Honestly just be like me, in a majority of the keys I PuG into where it’s filling I just tell them “Stack Melee”, you cannot go wrong.
Plus Range Dps really outside of Shadow Priest, which is the only exception I’ll take, Mass Dispel, PI and Stamina Buff are all so good, Range dps is lacking.
Just stack melee, 10000% easier to heal, so much more utility, shorter interrupts and CC, makes everything so much smoother.
The biggest bonus, all melee no matter what will always be infront of you and in range, makes pushing keys infinitely easier.
Prot Pal, 2 x Ret Pal, Shadow Priest , can’t get a Shadow Priest switch it out with a Rogue you can’t go wrong.
As sad as it sounds, Maining Preservation has created this hate for Range dps.
That was me and Hpal. With their mastery they may as well only have a 30y range. Trying to hit a MM who is across the map with a full heal only to see that hp bar nudge like I was in ret spec. I really learned to just let people die.
Quick how? You just have to press the Landslide key after pressing your Upheaval key while your cursor is vaguely near your target. The combo literally has less net skill involved than its constituent parts, because the already low chance of missing Landslide is reduced to zero against a CC’d target.
Because it is utterly devoid of skill. Anyone that isn’t afflicted by some kind of severe physical illness that wipes out their muscle or nerve function will be able to successfully execute on the combo from the first try and never fail any try thereafter. There is no failure condition so long a you understand which button comes first out of two total buttons.
Working around our range is a skill. It both raises the skill floor and skill ceiling of the class. Having to work around more mechanics and maximize your uptime while doing so is a skill. Knowing when you need to hold your Hover, and when you need to use the dash in specific, and when you need to use the CWM buff, is all a skillful display. You can find it frustrating all you want, but that is what skill expression looks like in this game.
I keep thinking preserv is fine with 30y, it has enough mobility to handle the 10y difference. If they’d increase range they would decrease healing output, i dont think i’d want that.
However of the 2 dps spec i believe Devoker as a complete glass canon needs the 40y. It suffers on the defensive side so much, it makes no sense to be 25y.
On the other hand the Augvoker is perfectly fine at 25y with all its defense.
That would make 2 totally different spec
