that’s cuz the riot MMO is being made by devs that know what they’re doing. plus their story writers are obsessed with their game’s universe, which is great - and I think plays a huge part in class/race fantasy design
i like the idea of class/race restrictions, as long as there is good writing to back it up. Opening up everything, for no reason… including your most special classes is soooo boring
For example, If dryad/cenarions are introduced into WoW, how the heck are you going to make a mechagnome that’s half stag?
REBUTTAL REBUTTAL: It’s a fantasy story. They can come up with any number of reasons for weird stuff to make sense. Tauren can be paladins because Sun, but still have the exact same toolkit as humans.
ADDENDUM: If you try hard enough, you can make anything make sense in a fantasy world. You’re pretending to be a star wars character in the WoW universe. We all have our foibles.
Wow has a bunch of npcs that can multiclass. The classes themselves are like generalizations of units that the races have. Rogues/hunters can represent scouts, assasins, pirates, ninjas, jousters, pet masters, poison experts etc
Night elves also have some shamanistic lore with Queen Azshara with the restoration healing artifact and there element mastery over elementals. So they do have ties to some of what shamans represent already. Mostly the elemental magics.
Also the firelands druids are sort of a mix of shamans and druids for example.
Thrall for example was trained to be a warrior, and shaman.
The only class/race combo restriction that makes sense is Demon Hunters and Elves. Every other class is essentially a religion, which any race can believe in.
I know you’re prolly trolling, but I’ll bite. If they give us velf pallies, make it so they can’t use the void appearances so we can be helf pallies in everything but name. But also, there are belf pallies running around with the darkfallen appearance. Just saying.
This is a game and is supposed to be fun, so I think any race/class combo should be available. The lore hasn’t made sense in a long time anyway. Of course they already added the combo that I wanted in Legion (Gnome hunter).
