Hi. Finally got me a smartphone (and am unaccustomed to such devices), and I want attach the Mobile Authenticator to my account since my dongle is probably dead by now. Question is: Do I need carrier service to run the app, or can I just run it off my wifi?
Also, do I need to send a picture of my ID to unlink the dongle from my account?
Actually, once installed, you don’t really need any wifi or service access. You need wifi or whatnot to install the app, but beyond that, it’s not required. The app runs completely on its own on the phone. If you do have WiFi on, then it works even more simply with push notifications that allow you to just click “Accept/Decline” instead of using a code, but it’s not required.
If the physical authenticator is still functional, then you should be able to use a code from it and the serial number on the back to remove it.
Here’s a link with details on how to remove the authenticator:

Ah, I get it. It just generates the code, then. Not used to these newfangled doohickies.
Thanks!

No worries at all! Just remove the old one before adding the mobile version and you should be golden
Personally, I didn’t think I’d love the mobile version as much as the physical, but I was wrong! The mobile is so much friendlier. Just follow the instructions on noting the restoration and backup codes during installation too (should you ever need to remove it or clone it on another mobile device).
