Exactly. And the future generations aren’t usually PC gamers. If there is a big mmo release in the future it’ll be on a portable device.
Maplestory 2 would excel if it was like on the switch or something even though it was a flop. Can’t wait until mmo’s stop trying to copy wow’s bad systems
You said there weren’t a ton of mmos, yet there are. Also the OP isn’t asking for new features, they are asking for core/staples of the game/genre to be removed/changed for them. That’s not the same thing as asking for new additions. That’s like complaining that there are too many zombies in a zombie horror film and asking for them to be removed.
Amazon’s not exactly struggling financially at the moment. I’m pretty sure New World, and their newly announced LoTR mmo, have plenty of money backing it. NcSoft, like them or not, isn’t really a small company either and they’re always working on new mmos.
Hopefully City State Entertainment (lead by the original lead developer for DAoC), Amazon, and some of the newer companies can used those failed attempts to see what not to do.
I’M saying 1.5M is the minimum amount, they basicly said they had their highest sub of all time and 1.5M was their previous highest.
I’m not ready to put my money on anything with Classic, it really feel like this could go wrong really quick. But I’m very positive that Classic will help wow. And definitly will give it a try, for how long idk.
There are MMOs that have essentially done that, they do not fair any better and are still by all accounts the worse of them. FF14 and WoW both emphasize a very traditional format in this regard and both are the most popular.
What will really need to be done with MMOs is something that we cannot yet do. When the tech for truly immersive VR systems is made, then maybe but for now, this is still the best overall structure we got.
I keep trying to get into it for love of giant fat cat pets and mounts, but man is the game not my cup of tea (giant fat cat pets and mounts non-withstanding).
I would argue ESO is up there as well. The bronze medal for sure, but it’s there. Granted I have no numbers to back that up, and it’s not traditional but still.
Might be alive, but I’m not so sure about it being well. Half that list are games that probably won’t even make it out of development, let alone '19 and '20 releases or successful releases.
Just because WoW has more subs, doesn’t mean they have more active players.
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t even have a sub and nearly every zone is crammed full of people… In fact I’m one of them =P But for some reason I still maintain a WoW subscription.
Most people don’t play alts in that game, you don’t need to. You can play everything on the same character. When you switch weapon, you become that class. I’d recommend watching the shadowbringer intro/trailer on youtube. I won’t link it for obvious reason, but it looks cool and kinda show that.
Do you think it would be that popular if it had a subscription? Both FF14 and WoW have a dedicated base willing to fork out 15 bucks a month on top of buying expansions.
Lol like you have any clue what “most people” do? I have an active FF14 (and ESO) sub. I know what those games are about. I have keep switching between characters because of the cosmetic feel of playing them. I know that I am not the only one.
Yeah I really find it bizarre that people who enjoy a game and play it would purposefully go to a forum for said game to talk about it. It honestly makes no sense.
I still stay current with gear here as well… but that doesn’t take very long, especially when you only play 1 character. I’m more of a log in every few days to check the build up of emissaries, run a 9 key and log out type person these days.
The game isn’t very engaging, and I have little reason to linger around.
Are you saying you can’t decide on a race to main? I don’t understand why you’d switch characters when one character can be all classes, especially since the game also gives you a free bottle of Fantasia that’s used to change how your character looks and even their race.
