MMOs need to evolve

Over the past few weeks I have talked about a few things I find undesirable in the game.

Gearing
Raids

Those are the biggest two. The biggest answer I get in return is that maybe MMOs arnt for me. But we all know the MMO genre is dieing, very few MMORPG are being made, and even the ones that are, are either niche small games that die quickly. Or p2w oversea games that…arnt popular with the west.

Mobas and battle royals have been new genres really defined in modern gaming and came out of nowhere.

I remember play DotA as a custom map, and there was many many discussions on turning it into a real game. Many people responded “Lol no one wants to buy a game where your progress is reset every game”

And yet here we are

I think it’s time we accept the MMORPG must evolve to continue to survive, and I am of the belief that next step of evolution is revolutionary change to gearing, and leaving behind raiding.

Or, the person with the issue can find a fix for their issue instead of creating an issue for millions of other people.

Oh so this is just another anti-raider thread. I have checked your activity. Seems like this won’t be a productive/constructive thread.

I don’t see the MMO genre dying. FFXIV is evidence that there is still a potential market for it. What did go downhill is WoW itself, and it’s not the market’s fault that it lost its spot at the undisputed top, it’s WoW’s fault. WoW has become less social over the years in favor of convenience, and it’s created a net negative impact on its popularity.

Maybe MMOs arent for you.

Weird, the ways you think the game should evolve to survive just happen to be the things YOU don’t like. What an odd circumstance.

wow has evolved in to an esport.

Just because WoW is doing horrible right now and people don’t want to play this BfA trash doesn’t mean the genre is dying.

Agreed. The heart of what made WoW great died the death of a thousand cuts for the sake of QoL and brain chemical spikes.

What if…MMOS all became a free for all shooter in an ever shrining map?! Every one gets dropped in random locations and then has to scrounge for weapons and supplies then fight others to the death and take their equipment. I will call Combat Royal Mode! Or maybe Battle Commoner Mode!

No no no… that’s becoming stale. It needs to evolve into a game of hunting and chasing and skill. You need to all start in a small area that steadily grows. Granting access to bigger and fancier weapons as the play-scape increases. Forcing you to move to find a weapon that will work or be obliterated by orbital cannons or whatever once they find out you’re camping in a wood-shed.

Edit Now that I think about it. I’m really surprised Battlefield hasn’t done this. With everyone starting out with knives in a small underground tunnel or whatever, and having to fight their way out into a city with pistols strewn everwhere and unarmed cars to escape to a more suburban area with sub-machine guns to the nearby military base with rifles, rocket launchers, tanks, planes, and helicopters and stuffs.

It is crystal clear MMOs are not for you. Stop trying to change the game to fit your wrong opinion of what the game should be.

Tell that to the game director…

WoW has always been about gear and raids.

I never said anything about Blizzard/WoW. The OP addressed the genre, and my reply reflected that sentiment.

Dude the future is in 40 man FFA rhythm based mobile AR dancing games!

It’s not dead its just being outclassed. Also, give it time Battle Royale will get old too.

I think it would be better to request something you may like added to the game and how you would like it to be, why you would enjoy it. Instead of saying hey remove raiding and make gearing only obtainable a certain way that I play.

Instead maybe a new gearing system available through different content alongside of raiding so there are options to obtain higher gear a different way. It would have to be challenging imo like mage tower stuff or maybe the green fire quests where it’s remains being about proving your skill level or knowledge of your class.

Unless you mean to rid of challenge to obtain stronger gear. That would ruin the game.

World of DDR.
