mmoRPGs are not for everyone

I like knowing that I’m using the options that will help me reach the highest performance. I don’t like under preforming on purpose. It doesn’t feel good

Yeah, but when you are trying to make a point and claim that anyone that isnt on your side is doing things wrong while having literally 0 credentials or something, you are just a walking meme.

In a single player RPG, that can sometimes be required because the devs didn’t balance the world around the various logical builds people would go for.

I mostly agree with you but there are experts in the theory of things that have no practical experience. Examples:

  1. Sports coaches
  2. Male gynecologists
  3. Astrophysicists
  4. Martial arts/mma instructors

You don’t have to be a good performing at something to know a poop ton about it.

This has been asked since the 70s when the only RPGs that existed required you to own books and actually sit at a table with other people. Ralph is delusional.

I honestly think Ralph just REALLY wants to be viewed as a special, fringe human.

He doesn’t care what you think, but he wants you to know that he isn’t confirming like some normie mcnormal gamerTM. /sarcasm

After saying “normie” I feel like a need to take a shower.

I can’t be bothered reading OP’s post, but judging from some replies I’m assuming this is a “meta gameplay bad” thread.

Whether you like the concept of meta builds/gameplay or not, it’s going to be an inevitability in any MMORPG, and has been the case for WoW since vanilla.

I remember back in BC someone inspected me and told me my build was wrong.
Then I replied back and said it was right. That was the build I made the way I wanted.

The TL;DR is he dont want people to strive for excellence while pointing fingers to everyone that play the “correct” talent as a sheep.

Later someone pointed out that he too used the “correct” MM Hunter talent, but then he lashes out saying that he found out that playstyle himself.

Basically when others is using the correct talent, they’re sheep, everyone but himself.

I regularly do things many consider wrong. Because sometimes the right build requires a much higher level of performance for only a tiny gain. And since I’m not doing high end content … it’ll never be an issue.

There will always be people who will judge you. They’re always looking for a Reason. If its not Item Level, its Talents, or its your choice of Race, or … they’ll always look for a reason to say “I’m superior! You’re garbage!”

Oh yeah. That normally happen when you’re trying to get into that person’s group. But in my case I was just in Ironforge minding my business and someone passing by decided to inspect me and tell me it was wrong.

I’ve also experimented with different stats. I had a time where I was getting a boatload of VERS gear. On a spec that considered VERS a stat to avoid. I tested it out, curious. And it was an improvement. Not a huge one, but it was an improvement. It was still seen as the worst secondary, but for me, my numbers visibly went up.

And yet, people would frown at me and go “but that stat is bad!”

Maybe in excessively large amounts, yes. But in smaller amounts it can end up being a gain.

At least there is the capacity for choice here, even if there is a loud crowd yelling otherwise.

How much customization existed on Everquest characters back in 2004? Oh, yeah, none outside of equipment. Earth & Beyond was my first MMORPG when I got in on the Beta (may EA die by hostile takeover and divestment), and it had the same level of customization.

Dark Age of Camelot, my second MMORPG, was were I first saw some customization of a player’s character as they grew, and there was still those same questions because they impacted everything. I even wrote up a spec treatise for my favorite class to provide build options for new players.

My next big MMORPG was City of Heroes. Did that have an incredible amount of customization built in to it, and it only became bigger as new pool abilities and Enhancements (closest thing to ‘gear’ in that game) came online.

By comparison, the build customization we have today is laughable and easy to get in to.

Ahh, yes. That hip, new game, “World of Warcraft.”

As someone who also plays tabletop, minmaxing has been around LONG before WoW came about.

Gee … it’s almost like the OP is deliberately trying to generate hostility towards the community he claims to represent.

As a huge fan of table top
D&D, playing with people who try and min/max every aspect of their character and throw any aspect of role playing away are the absolute worst.

Especially when they try to “recommend” feats/spells etc. to other players.

Do you also enjoy a good romp in the moon guard gold shire inn?

Don’t remind me. Many people were serious sad panda when that game went under.

But yeah, build customization options have seriously declined over the years.
