MMO tierlist and why FF is a charade

Ok i just tried FF (two times) and i just couldn’t get why this specific game has this hype. So it makes me try other MMOs.

I will start scoring with FF (the hyped one)

FINAL FANTASY XIV
Graphics 3/5 (scenarios good, animations bad)
Gameplay 3/5 (feels like not aged well but some boss mechanics are cool)
Leveling 3/5 (ok)
Class variety 2/5 (bad)
Art/design/lore 4/5 (decent)

Star Wars Old Republic

Graphics 4/5 (decent)
Gameplay 3/5 (good)
Leveling 5/5 (unrival material, absolutely insane)
Class variety 3/5 (ok)
Art/design4/5 (decent)

Elder Scrolls Online

Graphics 4/5 (decent)
Gameplay 4/5 (decent)
Leveling 3/5 (good)
Class variety 4.5/5 (you can make a dual wield sorcerer, the variety is the point this game shines)
Art/design4/5 (decent)

World of Warcraft

Graphics 4/5 (its cartoon like but its really good compared to others MMO)
Gameplay 5/5 (Current the best compared to others MMO)
Leveling 3/5 (good)
Class variety 4.5/5 (a lot of options all kinds of melees and casters and all of them are playable, you wont be kicked because you are playing dps X or Y)
Art/design 3/5 (the point were WOW shines less, weak variety)

I can understand some of you pall WoW and needs to move… but FF is definitely weaker than WoW in all forms.
Star Wars and ESO are good options.

You’re taking elaborate MMOs with tons of content and simplifying them into 5 categories. I can’t take this seriously.

is being intentionally simplified, i’ll not dance around “complexity”, its about being fun or not.
I can elaborate more about point X or Y though, wall text its not my intention.

and you’re trying to dismiss it because you think that litterally the other two are more elaborate?
SWTOR was literally WoW with lightsabers (there’s memes about how the Sith Inquisitor is basically an Elemental Shaman. THe massive bugs and draconian rules that get people banned for using the AH)

It’s because your ratings are all subjective (as they are by nature). For me personally, I would rate “Leveling” 5/5, “Class Variety” 4/5, and Lore “5/5” for FF14, so that game shoots up for me.

Meanwhile, to me WoW is down to about 2/5 for “Gameplay” but it focuses practically entirely on things I largely don’t enjoy, and 2/5 for “Leveling” given how fast the time goes and how few stories you actually fully experience along the way. “Lore” also drops to maybe 1.5/5 for WoW.

Your “definitely” is purely a matter of opinion, and I as an example have a hugely different opinion, as we all can.

Yes, and thats not a bad thing.

I know many things are subjective.
Rating FF 4/5 for class variety is not one of them.
For example, you can THINK FF classes are good in variety. Thats ok.
IF defines FF as good in variety you must defines ESO as a PLUS +++ god tier. Because ESO in this category is objectively astronomical ahead.

That and I doubt the OP has reached end game in any of them.

I would have to play ESO first to do that. Out of the games you listed, I’ve played WoW, FF14, and SWTOR. I don’t quite understand why you feel this desperate need to declare other’s opinions “wrong” because they simply disagree with you and find enjoyment in a game you seemingly just want to hate on. Personally, I really enjoy the class variety in FF14. Each one approaches its role in a notably different way than the others, and I have fun

I dismissed it because I’ve played all 4 and narrowing them down to 5 arbitrary review scores doesn’t make a lick of sense.

Yeah… I feel like OP got to level 10 then decided to make this list lol

You wont get kicked because you never got invited in the first place…This list is full on bull lol

He would rate FF 14 even lower. FF 14 endgame is literally bike with kids wheel while WoW is challenging and fun.

Getting to level 10 in FF is like getting to level 4 in wow…. If your not paying attention you’ll be level 16 before you know it.

Do ultimates and come talk to us about hard.

Fact is if you want to do ultimates you’ll need to switch to a sever with raiding guilds.

You mention ultimates, which are indeed difficult, but they are not really accessible to most of the community. I would say that even Savege isn’t accessible to most 14 players. That leaves them with normal raids, alliance raids, and dungeons. None of which are very challenging, and there are no real gradients in between. Maybe EX trials if they are adventurous enough. But those are quite limited in scope every patch and offer little in regards to scaling rewards.

I believe WoW does difficulty scaling much better. Of course there’s normal/heroic/LFR, which is just for story/leveling. This is mirrored in FF14 with what’s been described above.

But with WoW, you have the option to have scalable small-player content in mythic plus, which offers challenges at pretty much all skill levels. The rewards also scale with what you put into it, and you can keep challenging your own personal skill level every week to keep improving. You also have normal and heroic raiding for casual difficulty levels, of which they are also rewarding for lower skilled players.

FF14 has nothing to compete with what I’ve described above. There is only very very easy, or very very hard. So lower and mid-level players are either stuck being unchallenged and unrewarded with the easy content, or mostly gatekept from the harder content. From that perspective, it’s really a fatalistic outlook.

So gameplay wise, I feel that is what really differentiates 14 from WoW - and is one category where WoW truly excels. As a low-mid level player, that’s the aspect I find most appealing about WoW.

You FFXIV fanboys need to relax. This is the guy’s opinion and nothing more No reason to get bent out of shape. It’s ok that other people don’t like what you like.

What if I told you

I like cake

AND pie?

It’s illegal to like more than one MMO. FYI, I like both WoW and FFXIV, but let’s keep that on the down low.

I even play BDO and GW2 sometimes :upside_down_face:
