I’m all for changes and experimentation, but… while understanding the balance between classes, it feels that MM at 60 with the new talent tree is underperforming compared to other classes (and what it used to output in 9.3), and even with 10 extra points at 70 - 5 of which almost useless, to be spent in the general tree - they hardly would compensate for the covenant abilities loss, let alone the lackluster damage we now get.
Was a damage nerf that much warranted coming into DF?
MM’s power is basically what it was before tier sets. Tier set propped up its damage significantly
BUGS. MM has a lot of abilities with bad interactions (salvo breaks unity right now, I’m fairly sure)
MM’s AoE is almost par with BM, with a slight burst advantage. Where it really struggles is ST and 2T cleave, which is nothing new. MM has always had bad ST, it’s just way more noticeable in a M+ setting because you generally want to maximize AoE damage there. No more tier set, no way to juice ST, so it has a damage profile that would really only shine in high trash, fort dungeons.
IDK if its the worst spec altogether atm, but its the worst of the hunters. In the right hands it can perform very well regardless, but if you were to slap an average hunter player that has equal familiarity with all specs into a key BM and surv will give better results.
I’ve been running MM keys for fun this week and I actually like the spec better right now. Before patch it seemed that all I did was aim shot, aim shot aimshot…zzzzzz and now I have a few more buttons to push. The rotation feels smooth.
As for numbers and how they compare I really cant tell. I feel like im putting out decent dmg, but I dont think we will really know until we have full builds and gear and all the things.
i feel the same way however i lost around 10-12k overalls since prepatch. i was hitting 30-35k overall on a 301 mm hunter as necro and kyrian before the patch.
now i am barely hitting 20-24k dungeon depending.
i am sure things will get better come dragonflight and having additional talents and maybe some more tuning.
Yeah, we’re all going to be playing BM. Say bye bye to Surv. for the entire expac. possibly! And MM? Maybe 1-2 seasons before they’d make it somewhat okay? I am guessing.
BM’s rotation of all things is nerfed, even though it had the smoothest and IMO most fun rotation it’s had in a while.
Survival is mediocre at best and there’s quite literally a talent that won’t work if you don’t have the right transmog.
And MM is just tragic.
They nerf our self-healing even though we’re pretty squishy even with the addition of FotB (which you only get when running tenacity. Guess what we have to run in dungeons?)
What’s funny is that the aimed shot nerf isn’t even good enough of a nerf for pvp. Probably needed a 35% or 40% nerf to aimed shot damage for pvp. This is especially true for low level battlegrounds where you can easily 1 or 2 shot other players.
I forgot there was a pve aspect to this game and now after learning how poorly mm is in raids, etc. I’m kind of surprised this wasn’t a pvp only change.
Based on the reduction in damage to Aimed Shot, it does bring Kill Shot closer in damage numbers. Previously, Kill Shot did 75-80% of Aimed Shot damage. That is now 90%.
It would appear that the intent is for MM Hunter to lean more into an execute build utilizing the Kill Shot modifier talents (Deathblow, Deadeye, Razor Fragments).
I listed three build ideas in another post, one of these using the above talents. I ran a quick +15 Gambit yesterday after the AiS nerf, using the Kill Shot build, and the result was about the same amount of DPS as dungeons I did last Sunday.
Once my character is level 70 in DF and receives the last five points to use in the spec talent tree, I will most likely be using the above build and add Bullet Storm, Salvo, Eagleton’s True Focus, and Unerring Vision to finish off an all-around build.
After playing Marks for all of Shadowlands and prior to the new talent system I was averaging in 20 keys 22-25k DPS, with 4 piece the spec felt nice, I always had something to press and my Aimed Shots felt like they did something.
I just recently did an Upper Kara as Marks, mostly cause my BM has the issue, “Unable to learn talents” and I averaged 16k dps and after 30 secs after I pressed all my spells, 6-7 total I had nothing to press after. It felt clunky, boring and spamming Steady Shot was uneventful.
Needless to say this spec is broken AF and hopefully the new tier set and 4 piece will fix it but as of right now they are in the worst state.
