They did mention in the Hunter Feedback thread that they plan to add options for the Eagle’s appearance.

This next step for Marksmanship is, ideally, the first of many. We are interested in continuing to flesh out Marksmanship’s Eagle as a true pet and partner for you on your journeys with unique interactions, effects, and even appearances in the future, but we don’t have specifics to share yet. We’d love to hear your thoughts!
As long as I can change the Eagle to be like a bat or raven for a Dark Raven theme, or a pterrodax for a Zandalari, I’m good with this pseudo-pet.
Its not much different than playing resto or whatever spec that is clearly more aimed toward pvp/instanced pve content and gimping yourself. There are clearly favored specs for certain content, there are a ton I avoid. It sucks when you prefer one but that is the reality. Blizzard butchered survival and I pretty much never played hunter again outside of some memeing MM in pvp when it was one shotting people. It felt so bad to play in open world compared to BM, but I am also not a fan of BM. Hunter essentially died as a class for me but I am not going to rage about it. I’m not going to change Blizzards mind.
Rogue was equally butchered in my eyes, I mained that class for over a decade. WoD was the last xpac I could enjoy it. Ret was equally butchered into a wheelchair spec, but amazingly got a good rework years later to go back to its midrange battlemage design.
In short, change sucks a lot of the time. You are either lucky, or not lol.
They are updating and buffing quite a few things in the spec.
One thing they are doing is baking in lone wolf. You get a kind of mm summon that heros for you, so you don’t have to bother summing and dismissing.
They are also adding new abilities and pruning stuff.
Making an unnecessary decision in a world where choice nodes exist is not a reality.
Your entire premise is flawed.
I’m not saying pet MM needs to be good. It isn’t good now. I’m saying there’s genuinely no reason to axe it, just fix the problem with LW or find a way to choice between this Eagle and the pet.

Pets are also not a core part of mm. They aren’t involved in combat and really only bring hero or hold threat.
They used to be. But they’ve pretty much devolved to the point where they are as useful as the water elementals. They both were even a net lose in damage to take them. Remember lonely winter towards the end of their life span? Basically lone wolf.

I think they still will be without. Their kit allows them a massive amount of cc and utility. And they are bringing back stuff like double tap for burst.
Tbh I think this is going to be a massive wait and see thing. For all we know, it could be a complete bust and they backtrack or change a lot a week later.
I still play mage, but removing water elemental stank large, barely see any frosties anymore.
As stated , I will switch mine to Bm and never play the class again

The dev probably doesn’t play the class at all.
It is probably the same person that normalized pets.
When 95% of teh population quits playing mm hunter, you can take his parking space away and remember I was right.
i absolutely am beginning to think they are thinning out subs , so they can make a warcraft 2 and charge us 30$ a month
I dont particularly care what “most” players are doing. The choice to run MM with a pet vs no pet should not be taken away, but with our choice of pet being replaced with a generic pet outside of our chosen stable, especially because there are different ways people play a class due to running different content. I dont run mythic+ and dont really raid either, outside of occasional stuff with the guild. I quest, do delves, craft, and RP. Why is my choice being taken away when the choice we have currently isnt even the issue? Why can they not remove lust from the pet and make it baseline for the hunter?
Options, dont players like having options? Not everyone is a meta chaser.
I don’t think its a horrible change but I don’t see why they couldn’t let you use pet for tank. Tons of horrible class changes have happened… I’m just saying I’ve wasted so much time complaining about stuff like this during legion class revamp and such that it is basically hopeless to expect blizz to change their mind. They don’t take the decisions lightly, and if you have been here a while, you know that they always double down.
The best fix I have found is to either cope and deal with the changes or move on to a different class/spec. Sometimes if enough QQ happens on the forums they will change their mind but it has to be a huge outcry. I felt like I was screaming into the wind on multiple class changes many times. I still miss rogue… the old rogue.
Because it’s trivial and obvious how to provide the missing utility without causing any problems whatsoever. For a class designer to crank this out without a single pause to think, “Hey isn’t there already a very similar existing ability that could be reused here?” is hilariously negligent.
