Mists was the first expansion I stopped playing in. I think I did the opening of Jade Forest and never touched it again as leveling still seemed quite slow (it was my biggest gripe with the game as a kid all the way until WoD when they finally made leveling really fun.)
I was also really burnt out getting 2 characters 85 in cata, those 5 levels took FOREVER. So how is leveling in MoP? Did they remove tagging? I’ve done Jade Forest so many times on alts in retail, I love it, but a lot of that enjoyment comes from flying (the zone is gorgeous to fly in.)
About the same as it is now
Damn, so WoD was the first time they changed leveling drastically. Thanks. Was hoping I was remembering incorrectly.
WoD doesn’t change it either. It wasn’t really until the level squish in Shadowlands when current expansion leveling was cut down so drastically
I meant for current expansion leveling. WoD 90-100 was the fastest and tightest leveling the game ever had. Took about 10-15 hours to hit cap? I capped on 5 or 6 characters because leveling was so fun in WoD. Xp for treasures, no more mob tagging so everyone can hit things (I think). Mists is truly the last of the old slow leveling I think?
Yeah WoD leveling was drastically different than before. You have the WoD zone powers that each class got a unique class buff while leveling. Kind of like borrowed power for leveling.
Each zone has really fun interactive things to make questing more fun. It’s still my favorite way to level in retail.

MoP has Pandaria treasures, you get a lot of gold and exp for each one. Theres a handy notes addon out there that overlays them in your map.
It’s funny. I think I leveled in MoP the most. I was determined to get every class to 90…which I did.
Then of course they added the paid boost.
I’m aware. I stand by what I said
That’s about what it takes now, if you go at a casual pace
1-80 gets faster, 80-85 gets significantly faster, 85-90 is about as fast as current 80-85, maybe a bit longer due to no flying during questing.

They will probably change the no flying they did for cata i cant seem them not letting is fly in pandaland at 85.
It would be super nerd rage over it.
I believe you needed to hit 90 and purchase the license from the trainer in Vale in classic panda land.

This was added only at the end of mop so hoping we get it at the start. Early on you could only buy the tome on the black market.

Not sure what you’re implying here, but you 100% needed to be 90 to buy flying tome in Pandaria, which was a character-specific unlock.
The Grimoire you’re referring to that could be bought to unlock it at 85 was added in WoD.

Went to double check and seems you’re right. While this would still be a change I would root for as we had this in wotlk.

85 - 90 is much slower than 80 - 85, especially without flying. But the zones themselves are also pretty large, and a pain to get around on. Questing takes more time and mobs are more difficult to deal with in leveling gear. Everyone is also bottle-necked into the Jade Forest.
If you’re lucky, you’ll hit 90 in Townlong Steppes so you won’t have to deal with the Dread Wastes without a flying mount. Horrible zone.

I wish they would make these changes but that’s like asking them to put flying at the start of WoD and Legion Classic when they come, I doubt they’ll do it. WoD not having flying… we all know how that went, and not being to fly around Legion again would be terrible.
Why not put the license on a dude right in the Jade Forest and let us buy at 85. I definitely don’t think it’ll happen.
They didn’t change anything about Cata flying. When Cata came out you were able to start flying right away

They are not going to change anything. Since 5.0 flying was learnable at level 90. It just means that LEVELLING/QUESTING takes longer compared to Cata where you could just fly.
Cata was the only expansion until Dragonflight that allowed flying from the start.

I wonder what new mob grinding or hyperspawning areas people are going to find to level in MoP. There was a cage arena with Hozen in the northwest of Kun-Lai in original MoP which was the best mob tagging area. Clearing the Hozen trash in Stormstout Brewery up to the first boss then resetting was also another strat in MoP, but instance limits are going to change that. Anyway, both these methods were nerfed in MoP.
Classic players are going to find something. Will it be better than questing? I’ll wait to see, because questing, especially once you get out of the bottlenecking RP fiesta in Jade Forest, is pretty decent experience since the hubs are dense with quests.
