Missing Warlock?

I went to create a character on Retail (a Human Paladin) but after I did that, it made one of my Warlock characters disappear? I remember it was a Human Warlock but now, she seems to be missing. Typing in “Warlock” in the search bar just brings up my Draenei Warlock I had. And clicking on “restore deleted” characters didn’t do anything. Neither did deleting my cache folder…neither did deleting that new character I had just created…

And, IDK which of the endless Ticket categories it would be appropriately to fall under…

EDIT: Or, they can just NOT have the option to make a ticket, at all….that works, too. Great. I want that lock back! How do I make a ticket ‘cause that’s the only way, right? I LITERALLY can’t find the option to make a ticket about it…

I am only seeing 3 on the license you’ve logged into currently.

One level 30 in Mists on Bloodsail Buckaneers.

One that doesn’t look to have ever been logged in or leveled on Emerald Dream, from last Aug.

One deleted level one from Classic that was deleted on 3/2

This Human Lock I’m talking about was on Retail. Either Shadowsong or Borean Tundra (Borean Tundra, most likely). And, I can’t seem to find ANY way to make a ticket…right now, I have NO ticket option available to do so…

And, I did create a Level 1 Draenei Lock just hasn’t entered the world, yet. I had this Human Lock (forget what level, I just KNOW was either Shadowsong or Borean Tundra, in this Charmed Guild) grouped with my “Alliance” section, on the character selection screen.

When I had made that Human Paladin for Emerald Dream it acted like it booted out that Lock of mine…

EDIT: She was sitting lumped in with THIS character, my Draenei Monk and Gnome Rogue. So, I’m guessing, she was level 28 or something? IDK I hadn’t logged onto her, in awhile…but I DEFINITELY didn’t delete her!

EDIT 2: I have the following “Camps” for organizing:

”Favorites”
”Charmed 1”
”Charmed 2”
”Alliance” - Which is where that Lock in question was (‘cause she’s a very old but has a lot of history character)
”Horde”
”Alts” - Level 1 Draenei Lock is here
”Emerald Dream”

ALL of those slots had four characters each!

So, when I created that Human Paladin, it removed/replaced my Human Lock IK I had!

EDIT 3: If I remember right, I think her name was Verooka? Something along those lines…(IK this site doesn’t log her, but IK she existed!)

EDIT 4: She was mogged in one of the Classic robes that was black and white, I think? And, her helm was mogged as a tan headband with a red star on it. There’s LITERALLY no way I “deleted” her! She just disappeared into the ether! She had the long (Raquel - is what Retail calls that hair style) black hair.

EDIT 5: And, if she needs a name change, that’s fine, I just want her back.

EDIT 6: And, from what you’re saying it sounds like she disappeared from my entire account, entirely!

EDIT 7: I even checked my other account (that I haven’t had a Sub to in YEARS!) just in case, and she’s not there, either.

EDIT 8: Well, if you ever do find some “unclaimed” Human Warlock sitting in the ether (that fits my description), she’s mine. IDK what else to tell you. But, it sounds like I’m just “out of luck”, right?

If there is even the slightest possibility of you misremembering this aspect, it is likely she’s gone permanently.

They now only hold onto max level characters for up to a year in undelete as of last year, so there’s no indefinite window of recovery anymore.

That isn’t how characters and accounts work, Estalayia. A character exists on a specific WoW license, which is bound to a specific Battle.net account. It doesn’t go floating off on its own unattached to anything.

The account you are currently posting on does not have a level 28ish Warlock on it, nor do we see one in the deleted list. The deleted list only lasts about a year though, so if the character did exist on this account, it had to have been deleted over a year ago.

I get that you are insisting that you wouldn’t have deleted the character, but we would not have. If the character did exist on this account someone with access to the account would have had to.

Now, often the remembered character actually existed on a different WoW license or Battle.net account. Looking at all of your WoW licenses on this Battle.net account I don’t see any trace of the character you described. You said that the character was Alliance though and would have existed in your Alliance “camp”, something that is a recent addition to World of Warcraft, and if it was sitting lumped in with your Draenei Monk and Gnome Rogue, it doesn’t sound like it could have been on a different Battle.net account.

With that said, a little more information would be helpful. Such as the name of the character. You said “something like that” when you gave the name, but such a guess doesn’t really help. So, assuming the character was on this account I want you to try the following.

Go to the Folder where your World of Warcraft game is, then click into the retail folder > WTF Folder > Account Folder > (Named WoW license folder) > (The folder with the name of the realm your character was on) > Now… Search that list for the name of your Warlock. Then post it here. Give us the Race as well, if you can recall it.

I can’t promise anything, but with that information we may be able to find it.

It’s not that I “wouldn’t” have, I’m saying that I did NOT delete her, when I had made that Human Paladin for Emerald Dream.

When I said “something like like that”, I was referring to I may not be spelling her name, correctly. But, now that I did your “WTF” folder suggestion, I see TWO, and this could get us one step closer to the truth! And, you’ll see I’m not wrong!

There’s “WTF” and “WTFOld”. “Verooka” (CONFIRMED by “WTFOld”) does NOT exist in “WTF” but DOES appear in “WTFOld”. If you want her race, she’s a HUMAN Warlock! My “WTFOld” folder CONFIRMS her existence!

EDIT: “WTFOld” CONFIRMS “Verooka” for “Borean Tundra”, just like I thought!

EDIT 2: What else do you want me to do, and I’ll do it.

EDIT 3: Sorry, I don’t mean to “shout”, I’m just overly excited, that I did, in fact, get her name, right LOL “Verooka” a Human Warlock is MY Warlock, and she’s missing.

Usually having Old on a folder means that you reset your UI previously, as renaming that and two other folders is standard. What’s the date on the “WTFOld” folder? That would give us an idea of the last time the character was confirmed to be there.

Thanks for confirming. Unfortunately, I’m not finding any such character. Even confirming that the character existed doesn’t tell us what happened to it other than it must have been deleted at some point. If not by your, then someone else who may have accessed the account at some point. I’m afraid regardless of the reason, if the character isn’t available on the account there simply isn’t a way to restore it. It would have been purged by the database.

(sigh) It says “6/21/2024”, but the the “newer” WTF folder is dated “2/18/2025” -_-

I’m (also) thinking ‘cause I tried making sure NO character was left telling me “catch-up available”, so IDK if I didn’t log into her to try to clear that out, and that could be causing the issue or what, but IK for a fact I saw her YESTERDAY in the same camp with everybody else so…

(sigh) Alright…guess I’m SOL. I PROMISE I didn’t delete her and NOBODY else did, either. Something happened upon creating that Human Paladin that just…purged her, ENTIRELY. So…it is what it is, I guess…

EDIT: Even if I don’t get her back, this is something that should be looked into as a BAD bug that needs attendance. So, I should probably post over there, about this.

I haven’t ever seen anything like that happen. Even if the character was just deleted we should see it in your deleted character collection. Either way, you can certainly submit a bug report through the in-game menu under Support or by posting in the Bug Report forum. If others experienced something similar they may be able to post and our QA team could gather enough information to figure out if there is an issue.

Thanks for working with us and providing specifics to we could help look, Estalayia. I’m sorry that we were unable to find anything.

I like having things organized, so every “camp” had all four slots filled with a character. This is how IK she’s “missing” ‘cause she’s not in her “designated” group, when I had created that Human Paladin (whom, I deleted shortly afterwards, when I found this out). So, I am curious if it shows my account “deleting” something but doesn’t specify exactly what? The reason I ask is because when I checked my guild to see if it showed her “leaving”, and it just said “left guild (4 months ago)”. No name was attached to who EXACTLY “left”. And, I wonder if me “deleting” something (not sure what) happened “today” (or four months ago, if that was my Lock…)? IDK if I’m making sense…

No, we don’t see a log where the account may have deleted something. Like “X deleted Y”, we see the character as deleted on your character list. I see all the information for that character, such as when it was created, when it was deleted, the level, name, class, race, etc…

Because it’s only level 1 it likely will not last on the deleted list very long, as the system doesn’t generally save level 1 characters for any considerable time.

“Unknown” tends to indicate that the character was deleted through some means. That can be a basic deletion or it could have been a character transfer. Removing the character from the realm doesn’t show the guild where it went, it usually just shows up as Unknown once that list updates.

I should note that the year time frame before a deleted character is purged from the database applies to character that are level 60+. If the Warlock was around 28, it could have been purged within 90 days, which does fit if the character left the guild mid-November.

OK, I’m genuinely afraid to make a new character, now ‘cause yeah LOL

IDK if it’ll do it to my other characters now xD

Alright, I’m going to the Bug Forums, then.

If that were an issue, Estalayia, I can pretty much guarantee that we would see a lot more than a single report. I won’t say it is impossible, as I have seen some odd things over the years, but it is extremely unlikely.

What is most likely explanation is that the character was deleted back in November by someone who had access to the account. The character list didn’t update so continued to show the character in the Warband group that you had put the character in. When you created a new character it forced the character list to update. Thus removing the “ghost” image of the character.

I’m not saying that is what definitely happened, but based on everything I know of how these systems work, it is the most logical explanation that I can think of.

Definitely report it in the Bug Report forum though, it never hurts to let QA know.

Even so, it’s not cool having a “phantom” image of a character, making the account holder believe that character exists, when it doesn’t. So, it’s still a “bug” either way making players believe a character exists, when it doesn’t.

EDIT: I’ll be sure to fully log into every character, to double check before creating any character I guess…

I wonder if this bug is part of what you are seeing. I haven’t heard of any characters actually disappearing with this bug, so I don’t think it caused that, but one person did say it was showing them deleted characters. If your warlock was deleted a while back, this could be why it still seemed to be there.

Ty posted my experience there, so the proper people can look into it. Great find of a thread! Definitely appreciate it <3
