Missing the point on BM runes

The logic point to having BM runes so the pet can cause more damage in which the rune was made for , especially for BM hunters in phase 2 . The pet is suppose to do damage than the hunter . That is exactly what a BM hunters is , pet doing more damage than the hunter

The down fall is that while the other classes would have caught up to hunters before the nerf going into phase 2 , now BM hunters will fall behind in phase 2 after the nerf . I believe Blizzard and everyone else have jumped the gun before phase 2 has even started . All the classes would have balance out after phase 2 . Everyone needs to chill out before making assumptions before phase 2 comes out . But now , i believe Blizzard has a big mess to clean up with the Hunters communities with these nerfs .

yeah, because bestial wrath is going to somehow make hunters fall farther behind LOL

bro, your pets are busted. admit it.

Get some gear and some basic ability to play a rogue before claiming everything that kills you is op.

Based on what? Hunters are still doing phenomenally in phase one.

Orly?

They need to redesign the runes. It’s possible to have a spec that deals most of its dmg through the pet without the pet being a busted passive (see retail).

Examples:

  • KC is an activated ability. That’s good but it would be better as its retail version and moved to gloves. That way BM hunters have an actual activated ability that directly deals dmg through the pet.
  • Cobra Strikes, while very underwhelming, is how they should design passive runes for BM hunters. It enhances the pet only if the hunter is actually playing the game.
  • The BM rune however is a passive that is active at all time, even if the hunter is afk. Ofc ppl are going to cry because it requires 0 input from the hunter.

We need more KC and Cobra Strikes runes and less Beast Mastery.

The bm rune is actually very easy to fix while fulfilling that same “active hunter=more pet damage” design idea

Just replace bm rune with go for the throat
When the hunter critically hits the pet instantly gains 50 focus and an additional 50 focus regen over 5 seconds.

This means using cobra strikes and bm rune would cause the pet to have the focus to use abilities and they are garenteed critical hits. And it requires the hunter to be acting. You could actually combine these 2 runes into one and maybe tone it down a little (because we really won’t be using cobra on chest)

Example

Rune of go for the throat
When the hunter critically hits it causes the pet to instantly gain 25 focus and an additional 25 focus over 5 seconds. When this effect is triggered the pets next ability will always critically hit.
This is an example of a nerfed version. They have 4 balancing levers on this now

  1. The instant focus regen can be changed, most likely in increments of 5
  2. The over time focus regen can be balanced the same way
  3. The amount of time that bonus focus regen takes can be changed from 5 seconds to say, 10
  4. The number of abilities from the pet to critically hit can be changed as well from 1 to 2, or maybe even 3.

Yes, the way the runes work could be anything really.
But the philosophy behind them should indeed be the following:

After that it’s just a matter of tuning. I sincerely hope the devs understand that and don’t turn BM into MM #2.

Bestial discipline will get us back to 70% focus regen so it’s just gonna get nerfed again, don’t worry.

Only 73% behind warriors. Amazing!

I dont think anyone is talking about pve here man, its pvp that pets are busted.

I like this idea. Make the pet powerful but only if the hunter is interacting.

I have a hard time with your statement saying hunters will now “fall behind” in phase 2. You have literally zero idea what runes are coming to your spec in phase 2 :joy: they nerfed it for a reason. Probably the same reason they havnt buffed Shadow. You’re acting like there wont be a major power spike for BM when bestial wrath opens up next phase:joy::joy::joy::joy:

Oh no, pvp happened on a pvp server.

Just re-roll Warriors going to need a ton of them anyways at 60 content, Aggrend has a hate b*ner for your class.

Yes hunters will likely fall further behind in DPS, as other classes outside of rogues likely will compared to Warriors which should easily claim the top spot once they actually get some abilities.

Either way, it would be nice if they would stop nerfing PvE because wanna be PvP players who joined a PvP server struggle against another class at 25 so immediately go to the first solution to fix their problem, nerf the other class, and come whine on the boards that they can’t compete.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. No matter how much input the hunter had to put into his pet people would cry all the same tears if they died to a pet.

The entertainment value of classic wow forum posts never runs out lol

On launch hunters had 3 runes that were not absolutely trash

Lion
Bm rune
Explosive shot

3/12

They nerfed runes right before launch and it proved to make them extreamly underwealming. Lone wolf as a prime example.

Then instead of toning down clearly out of control runes/new scaling they gutted them instead.

Explosive shot got gutted
They gutted scorpid posion
They gutted kill command

These did need nerfs, but they didnt need to be gutted.

Now chimera shot was 125% weapon damage on launch. It wasnt even strong and got gutted to 85%. Yes they recently buffed it to 100% but it still barely hits harder than an auto shot. And thats by 32 damage it gets from the non scaling serpent sting interaction. As in even if i ran full spellpower gear to just make serpent sting deal more damage, the chimera interaction would still only add 32 damage.

They gutted the bm rune saying their goal was to move power into the hunter. And they failed at that. Bm rune is still bis, and was a 12% nerf to a hunters total damage.

Now, they had the option of buffing leg runes if they were scared of making glove runes actually good to make up for this damage loss. They didnt.

And as a reminder warrior and rogue are doing more dps than hunters were from before the nerfs (minus explosive shot nerf, we didnt get to see that in raid with enough data to know)

And the most recent nerf happened while hunters were 3rd in dps in pve. Meanwhile rogues and warriors who were above hunters didnt get touched.

If they wantted to move damage into the hunter and away from the pet, they failed to do so.

What they did was nerf the 3rd place dps down to 4th or 5th place and made all of our runes feel bad. Lion is the only rume that actually feels strong and thats just because its a massive +20% stats for the hunter.

Hunters have been nerfed repetitively because of people that cant click their cc button on the pet for an easy win.

And hunters are the only pure dps class left. So not being at least above the middle of the pack in dps is very bad design.

To give you an idea of how bad hunter runes are.

Lone wolf is a dps loss for a mm/sv hunter vs no rune at all.
Sniper training takes 6 seconds of 0 movement to get the buff and that 10% crit doesnt even effect auto shot, the largest part of a ranged hunters damage, it only effects ability shots crit and even the slightest movememt takes the buff off instantly.

Serpent spread adds 32 damage per targey hit (max 3) and doesnt have any scaling, overrides stronger serpent sting, and if you use chimera with it it will put a 32 damage 15 second serpent sting on the target instead of the 80 damage serpent sting that is normally used.

Kill command got nerfed into oblivion

Flanking strike which is the best leg rune right now is horribly designed with 20% chance over 10 seconds for a reset (which makes it very unlikely to hit the 3 stack) but part of its power budget is buffing mongoose bite damage… an ability with 0 scaling, can only be used after a dodge, and currently does 25 damage before armor reductions…
The only reason flanking strike is the bis leg rune is because its an instant auto attack. If it was on next melee swing like raptor strike it would be absolute garbage as well.

Now. We have discussed why hunters do not trust the runes to be good. So lets look at base classes for why we believe we will fall off. The era hunter is known for being strong at low levels and falling off as gear scaling and levels rise. We are already being passed by warriors and rogues, the classes that dps are most gear reliant in era for dps. Combine that with being nerfed when we are already behind them, them getting access to talents that will scale far better, and the fact that every other class is going to get the majority of their dps kit now while hunters already had our full dps kit. Hunter is not looking to be in a good spot come p2,3, or 4.

Blizzard has had a 20 year long trend of nerfing hunters early in expansions and leaving them to rot until next expansion. So…

Aggregated data:
Warrior 183
Rogue 151
Hunter 149
Mage 142
Druid 139
Pali 130
Warlock 129
Shaman 107
Priest 91

Hunter are fine in this meta. The only dps outliers atm are warriors, shaman, and priests.

I don’t think so because eye of the beast or sending the pet to solo somebody wouldn’t happen.
And retail is a proof that the concept actually works and is balanced.
