Haven’t played in years, most active during the Wotlk expansion.
Wanted to check out the latest expansion and noticed Shadowmourne and The Tabard of the Lightbringer is gone from my inventory.
Did it get deleted when I did the “Upgrade Gear” option?

Gear Upgrade should mail any items in your inventory and on your character to you, you should find them there.

I did get all the rest of the items back, or i think most of them anyways in the mail.
However - i still couldn’t find the two items i mentioned. I checked my bank and void storage. Nothing. I can still transmog though.
I tried the item restoration process- that only shows the most recent items that I sold.

The tabard vendor may have the tabard for you to buy back. You could see if Darion Mograine has the option to get Shadowmourne back. I know he gives Shadow’s Edge if it goes missing. But not sure on Shadowmourne itself.
My concern is that I’ve heard a few people mention that the welcome back upgrade didn’t give them all of their items back.
The items you had on your character during a Gear Update are sent to your mail, if you do not retrieve them in the allotted time, yes, they could be deleted when that mail is purged.
Had you used the Gear Update option previously or was this your first time? If this was your first time then no, it is unlikely that the process deleted your item.
The Tabard is part of your Transmogrification Collection. There was an update earlier this year that cleaned up several tabards, removing the physical item. I don’t think this is one of those, but it is part of your collection so you can still use the appearance. We’re unable to restore the physical item for this one.
For Shadowmourne, assuming we can verify that you completed the quest, which should be easy enough as I can see you completed the quest, we should be able to help restore it.
It does look like you have submit a few tickets on this and it seems the Game Masters might not have been aware of those facts. You have another open, I’ve tied the proper article to the ticket so they should be able to reference that.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to verify any of those claims and haven’t seen anything from QA on it either.
Most of the ones I’ve seen have been from folks who have done a double Gear Update. Meaning they did a Gear Update, received all their items in the mail from it and either left the items in the mail or only partially cleared them. Then didn’t log into the character for 6+ months and did another Gear Update.

I wouldn’t call that an “unfortunately.” I’d call that a good thing!
Ah… that makes sense. Perhaps I’ll put in a feedback suggestion to make sure there’s a larger pop up to get everything out of the mailbox upon gear updating.
