Didn’t we debate this point before?
Essences have weird requirements for the content they matter in. Why does a player who wants to push mythic keys, Mythic raids, or compete in highly rated pvp need to farm things till exalted?
I don’t see how that benefits anyone for what is a reskinned glyph system from wrath.
Just seemed odd you would be changing your trinkets, along with essences/corruption in response to OP talking about essences and corruption. And again they aren’t talking about picking the worse ones, they are just saying you don’t need the best ones.
From scratch? Some of them most certainly do and are, since my entire team just faction changed/transferred. Some re-rolled vs. bringing their current main. The example I gave you of the player who came back, he is at least another two weeks out for the essences he needs because you can only get them once a week. 8.3 Lowered some of the requirements like rep but if you are starting from scratch or coming back from not playing for a while you have at least 3 to 4 weeks to get your essences up to rank 3 and that is with focused grinding with that intent in mind. If you weren’t here for 8.2 when flying dropped, you have that grind as well, as well as other challenges (Outdated content, needing to run old raids, etc.), which is a deterrent and IMO prevents people from coming back.
As far as being a requirement which was the point of the OP, if you are raiding, those essences do make a difference in your performance. We have a healer who’s main was doing significant more HPS simply because of the Mechagon rep based essence. The character she re-rolled isn’t Revered yet so same class, same spec, same player and one essence missing equals a huge drop in meters.

Essences are not required to do, lets say, daily quests.
Essences are required for anything thats worth a damn. The people that disagree are the same people that are dead weight even in LFR, and the same people that complain about not being included in anything competitive.
I think my response explained that appropriately. I was not aiming to misconstrue the comparison. I also pointed out what just changing the essence and corruption from the best to the second best would do (9k dps loss) in my last post.

Fire seems to be one of those specs with a massive reliance on 1 essence. It’s gap to second is massive.
What is also interesting is rank 1 is already better than any other essences rank 3.
And you can get rank 1 very easily, and it gets you ~80% of the way there.
There is too much maintenance for a single character now. Something needs to be tuned. Please for the love of god make essences account bound.
