So I thought we could just add everyone’s opinions on the changes coming in Midnight to Shadow specifically.
So far, I feel like the changes are somewhat okay. I still think some things are questionable. For example, thematically they want us to go back to more of an Old God focus, but we still have a ton of Void spells, including our major cooldown and the new apex talent, which I don’t really understand.
I like that many of our talents are now baseline, especially Silence and Dispersion. I also like that Halo is tied to the Archon tree instead of being a class talent. We’ll have to wait and see what happens to Voidweaver though. I believe that Void Torrent will return for that Hero Tree only.
What I don’t understand is why PI is still in the game. I believe it’s unhealthy for the game as a whole. Having a mini-lust and tying it to utility seems strange, and we’ve seen specs balanced around having PI—so just remove it at this point. (Also, having to spend two talent points just to get the spell and then its effect is, in my opinion, a useless node.)
The same goes for Shadowfiend. I don’t get why they removed Shadowfiend as a baseline ability only to add it back as a talent, while locking Subservient Shadows behind it. Just remove both Shadowfiend and Mindbender in my opinion.
I also still dislike the fact that Psychic Link is our only real form of AoE, besides the new Shadow Crash which just feels like a weird change all together.
Having a cast time for Voidform is also something I despise and see no point in.
The lack of an Insanity spender that does AoE feels strange as well; I was hoping Void Volley might be turned into that.
There are still a few talents we haven’t seen in the tree yet, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they want this spec to turn into.
Removing void bolt is kinda just killing it for me. Shadow, at least when playing voidform, was a spec defined by rhythm that felt almost musical with the consistent beat of void bolt every 4.
Agree, it will feel so much worse pressing Void Volley instead every like 15s or something.
Just feels like its halfdone and they just sent it out to test. But it feels like its not that much to test tbh.
Besides psychic link, I think shadow was rotationally perfect in undermine. You could ditch fiend / bender, and PI I don’t really care, but the core rotational gameplay for both Archon and voidweaver was spot on.
Now somehow they’ve killed that gameplay and we still have shadowfiend?
Yep its amazing really. I do not understand why they are so persistant in keeping both Shadowfiend and PI still. I do belive the current rotation for shadow could be so much better and intersesting than just blasting Single Target damage with PL doing all the aoe.
Id love if they did more with Apparitions and the tentacles we spawn tbh.
On another note our only form of CC besides silence is still Psychic Scream which we must be in melee range to cast and our spec has one of the longest range in the game.
Yea I guess so, But it felt weird of them to announce that they want Shadow to go back to Old-God theme when we’ve had void since Legion.
Especially since the new DH Spec took alot the entire void-spec.
Yea PI and Shadowfiend/MB serves no purpose besides the fact that they’ve been in the game for so long, and its a button to press on CD.
Void Form has no purpose without Void Bolt. In Blizzard’s attempt to remove “bloat” they’ve basically turned Shadow’s main cooldown into bloat.
It’s one of the dumbest class decisions I’ve ever seen.
Void Torrent’s removal has me very concerned about what their plans for Voidweaver are since that 30 second mini-burst window changing up the rotation a bit is a large part of why I find it fun.
I also dislike the Old God fantasy. Either give me full cosmic void or give me the old death priest aesthetic back. The old god tentacle stuff sucks.

Im all for changes at this point since we still suffer from the Legion Rework.
But if they’re going to change Void Bolt into Void Volley they should just put Voidform on the shelf and do something new.
Then again I wasnt that fond of the Legion Voidform at all since it was unbalanced and just didnt work in the open world.
They just need to make something new and stop sticking whats left of Voidform imo.
100% agree. I fear they are reworking Voidweaver to fit Old God aesthetic and I hope I am wrong cause that will be the final nail in the coffin for me with shadow. Voidweaver was the one hero talent i was most excited for during TWW Beta. I thought we were going towards more cosmic void flare but now we are being forced to be tentacle deviants.
I must disagree with this.
When playing my spriest I never liked the idea of having to be pressing void bolt all the time during my burst on top of my normal rotation, thus why I always played DA.
I always felt it was kinda obnoxious.
But having the choice was also bad since they had to balance the spec around two hero trees and two major CDs.
I like that they’re pruning it down to one CD to balance it around.
Since they’re removing Void Bolt they should rework VF as a whole, cant belive that they still have the “increase by 2.5s every SW:M”.
Shadow needs to be built up from the ground like they did in in Legion.
I mean Voidform is the burst CD, Void Bolt is something that you unlock with the CD.
Its just there to press when it comes of cooldown to increase the duration of the DoTs and spawn the ghosts.
I hate that its gone aswell since Void Volley will have a much longer CD
Void Form doesn’t increase your damage though outside of a talent exclusive to Archon and even that is just 20% which is really weak for a 2 minute cooldown. Void Bolt is the main feature of that burst window.
