I’m making this thread to address how I’m feeling. Shun me, shame me, berate me. Do what you must because of what I’m going to cover in this post. I don’t care.
The Burning Crusade was when I first dived into World of Warcraft. I remember wanting to play a Draenei and a Blood Elf just to see what they were like. I remember my first character I put effort into. The questing was tedious; long hours spent at my computer as a child. I was hoping that I would get that nostalgic feeling I did waaaaay back then, so long ago; but alas that has been ruined.
The Problems
- Boosting
- Microtransactions via a deluxe edition
- Community
These have effected the game in a ripple down effect. “Boosting will bring more players to the game!” you may say, “It’s just cosmetics!” you might argue.
Okay?
The Classic version of World of Warcraft was meant to be an exact 1:1 recreation of the game how we remembered it and let me tell you, TBCC isn’t. We were promised #somechanges for the better but those changes became costly.
- Boosting
If a person were to start World of Warcraft Classic; they never played before and had no idea how different it was. Would you tell them to A) buy a boost and jump into current content? or B) tell them to play the game from the start so they can experience what you loved about the game in the first place?
Would you hand someone an RPG like The Witcher 3 and have them start the game at the end? No, you wouldn’t because it would tarnish the experience of that magical game. Them leveling from Level 1 also teaches them how to play their class which is super important for end game.
“What about the people who have multiple 60’s?” Well, fair argument. I guess it would get stale but it ruins the experience for that new person. The new person won’t feel accomplished at reaching max level because some random in SW swiped their credit card and got more stuff then the new player did in a matter of minutes.
- Microtransactions
Just terrible for the game in general. Remember how the game was supposed to be the way we remembered it? Yeah… that didn’t happen because they decided to make NEW content for the deluxe edition and shilled it away behind a paywall. You can argue there were microtransactions in TBC via TCG cards but that’s different.
How? You weren’t guaranteed a pet/toy or mount. It was by luck of the draw. It was nothing but a promotion for their TCG. That’s all.
- community
With the flood of bored retail players due to the boost, the community has become even more toxic. People are fighting each other, tooth and nail over the boosts. People are poor shaming and insulting people who are just voicing their concerns. The reason they added what the boost and such; was to bring retail players into TBC. That’s it. Trying to milk the cow dry and it’s honestly eating this whole community alive.
Thanks for coming to my ted talk.
TL;DR: Blizzard introducing boosts and microtransactions is killing classic’s spirit. It’s nothing but a former shilled version of what it could’ve been.
