Microsoft VS Riot

Sad but true.

Iā€™d just like to point out:

Personally Iā€™d like to see a Necromancer class. I might not ever play it because Iā€™m sorta defaulting to Rogue, but I still would like to see it.

Well monetizing max profit per user iā€™m sure is making a ton of money, itā€™s just usually what happens closer to the end of a gameā€™s lifecycle because itā€™s less sustainable, eventually you just push too many people away

Thatā€™s what makes it sort of uneasy to see

I totally agree, and wish it was possible as it is apparent that lack of significant competition I would place as a reason we have seen some of recent mishaps. Albeit, I have some seen some quick correction for things like the Anniversary currency, MOP Remix Currency too. This is still while they have past historical context to compare too, so I think part of it maybe playing too safe.

As other people have stated, I think the MMO genre is not something that many companies have the capacity to invest or are willing to vest the risk into as it has a selective audience and requires a thriving population to survive.

That and it would be extremely hard without the right employees and infrastructure, to either catch up, or outbuild something that has been around for 20 years for WoW, or something the Caliber of FFXIV as well.

There would have to be a point in time where building the network infrastructure, art, and hardware/software that can be done with a greater return in investment before WoW or FFXIV could see any potential competition. This may be possible in the future as ease of development may grow, but it would be extremely risky, and hard to market a new MMO of similar caliber at this time.

I would think theyā€™re closer to Blackguards. Or maybe a multi-class Blackguard with a few levels in Cleric using the Death / Undeath Domains.

Been an constant argument on these forums:
Paladins and Priest both use the Light, but in different ways = :white_check_mark:
Demon Hunters and Warlocks use Fel, but in different ways = :white_check_mark:
Death Knights and Necromancers both use Death magic, but in different ways = :x:

Some people just want to dig their heels in for arbitrary things.

Iā€™ll be honest, I knew next to nothing about the lore and world when I played LoL back during the Freljord event. Didnā€™t even know there was any lore outside of ā€œwizard summons champions to fight each otherā€. After watching a lore video on the different nations, I was actually kind of stoked to see an MMO for Runeterra.

Define dead.

WoW specifically is no where near dead lol, and the genre as a whole? Come on now.

Millions of people, tens of millions even-enjoy MMOā€™s daily.

I know you saw YouTube videos that told you MMOā€™s are dead, but the data doesnā€™t bare it out.

Source this claim while youā€™re at it too.

He sort of has a point, no studio really wants to make an MMO

Which is why it was pretty exciting and cool for riot to announce one

You mean when all the WoW streamers ā€œquitā€ in the summer of 2022 for a month? FF14 is an absolute meme by comparison to WoW.

FF was at the height of its Endwalker storyline then, and yes, it made a significant number of gains and converts.

And FF does plenty better than WoW does.

Agreed and I never denied this. I was countering the person stating woltk sold more copies than any other expansion, it did not. A few factors also limit it from even being in contention for highest sold. Back then home computer gaming systems were still niche around most of the globe as was household internet.

I donā€™t agree with that at all. Live-service games are the hot new trend for every company to chase after these days, and while they donā€™t appear as MMOs in the way WoW does, they undoubtedly cater to the same appeal.

You donā€™t have to, thereā€™s countless articles about it. As well as the fact that they arenā€™t?

Boils down to being very expensive to develop and maintain

BFA had Classic on its era. And it gained more players overall after it got record sales at start.

Since they declared Riotā€™s parent company to be an arm of the Chinese military I wouldnā€™t worry too much about Riot at the moment.

True. Couldnā€™t play classic unless you had the WoW client. Just canā€™t remember whether you needed all expansions or just the basic WoW client. If not, probably everyone thought you needed the full expansion loadout to play classic.

This is very moot. Riot game can be hosted in China, US player base is left out.

Will be interesting if China can make and prove a world class product.

You didnā€™t only the base game and a current subscription. They advertised that point a great deal wheb classic was releasing

I love LoL because the PvP is actually fair. Everyone starts at level 1 every match. I can leave for a month and come back and still be at the same level as everyone and not have to geind for gear just to compete.

Most people who hate it suck terribly at it.

The only thing you need money for is aesthetics. Everything about the game is free.
