Microsoft VS Riot

I bet gaming industry is heating up.

What are WoW netizens take on this competition?

WoW has never had serious competition.

It would be good if it did.

Here’s hoping.

It’ll really heat up once Metroid Prime 4 is on the rise.

Assuming they mean Riot’s upcoming MMO.

I mean, still not budging on installing a ROOT ACCESS anti cheat. When they still have cheaters.

lmao.

They’re both racing to the bottom, imho.

Blizzard has pretty much nothing going well for it, right now.

Just the same old games, nothing new that’s worth salivating over.

As a result, Blizzard doesn’t have any real hype being generated.

Riot, recently just screwed up the rewards structure in League of Legends, and has pissed off most of the people over there as a result.

No more hextech boxes, which means no more free skins and stuff from playing- just whatever’s in the crappy battle pass.

Things really aren’t too great for both companies.

I’m more looking forward to Mario Kart 9 from Nintendo at some point this year, and MH Wilds from Capcom which is next month.

Blizzard/Microsoft and Riot don’t really have anything in the works that seemingly will interest me.

Aside from Riot’s Nexus TV show that’s a follow-up to Arcane, but that’s made by a completely different company, and isn’t indicative of the gaming scene.

In fact, most people that loved Arcane couldn’t stick with League- it’s just not a great game if you don’t like MoBAs lol.

It isnt here yet.

Legend of Runeterra is an indication Mmorpg is in the making.

Riots recent actions like the changes in LoL monetisation and the sundowning of LoR has kinda cooled me on their MMO, especially with Ghostcrawler leaving the project.

I just don’t think the MMO is ‘near’ in any capacity. Probably like 2027-28 at the earliest.

WoW itself was worked on since like the 90’s and didn’t come out till 2004. (I think actual production on WoW started in ‘98 - 99’, they were looking at EverQuest at the time.)

I love the League universe and I’ve played since beta (I’m not a good player or anything lol, I average silver/gold) and the show really helped flesh it out.

I do think it’ll be promising, but I’ve seen rumors the game has been scrapped and restarted at least once, with Riot quoting “We don’t believe you all want an MMO that you’ve played before with a Runeterra coat of paint; to truly do justice to the potential of Runeterra”, so I think it was too WoW-like and they wanted to change it.

It’s Riot and they can afford to make higher budget stuff than Blizzard at this point, just gonna take longer than expected, I think.

They announced their MMO years ago, and I’m sure most have expected something concrete by now, but alas.

Yup, League isn’t in a good spot right now as a result. And Valorant’s got something similar going on with gun skins being overpriced, I hear.

Valorant guns have always been overpriced. Is this something new?

Nah I just don’t play it, so hearing about LoL’s pricing drama, folks just pointed at Valorant and said it’s also been similarly bad over there. (Also the gatcha stuff, removal of free loot, etc.)

It was news to me, lol.

Ah ok, yeah, Valorant has always been basically “well, CSGO sells skins for a bajillion $, so we should to”.

Like don’t get me wrong, the Valorant skins are INCREDIBLY high detailed, probably the best looking guns in all the major FPS’s. But they’re not worth the price of a AAA game just for a singular weapon skin.

As for LoL, they monetisation changes for new champs is pretty weirdhands. Like it doesn’t affect me personally since ive got enough resources banked for like the next 5 years of new champs, but even so.

The gaming industry, in general, is bad atm.

Dragon Age Vielgaurd has pretty much destroyed Bioware…so the new Mass Effect that we got teased with is probably not happening. I haven’t done FPS games in a long time since PUBG so can’t speak on the state of them.

Microsoft has the unique capability of dominating the gaming scene with having multiple studios but seems to be flubbing it. Being in competition with someone would be hilarious with others for Microsoft but…they seem to want to make bad decisions despite having a template on what makes a good game.

Blizzard has WoW: WotLK as it’s best seller…yet every expansion after has been worse. Bioware had Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3…then rushed out Andromeda. Same With Dragon Age Origins. Ubisoft lost their collective minds. EA went from the premier sports games but now follows the pay to win mantra not only in sports games but also Star Wars and such.

The gaming industry is not looking good.

whatever company doesnt embrace level scaling laziness wins.

I don’t really get why people like Riot games. LoL is garbage, their monetization is garbage.

The only good thing Riot has produced is Arcane and that’s because they outsourced it to a French studio rather than doing it themselves.

Microsoft is bigger than Riot in terms of their wealth, thats for sure.

Not even close. Have you payed any attention to sales figures? Bfa sold more copies wotlk. You seem to be confusing sales for active subs

PvP games, mostly. League is also free so it was easy to just jump into with some pals.

It was the most popular game in the world, probably a decade or so ago by now. When MoBAs were “the new thing” and prior to DoTA 2 being made by Valve.

Similar to WoW during the late 2000’s, early 2010’s was the most popular game in the MMO space.

They both had their time making waves in the gaming sphere.

Yeah, but Microsoft is sitting on IPs like Banjo-Kazooie and does nothing with those for decades.

All Riot has is League and Valorant, and they’ve been hard at work fleshing out the LoL universe with tons of games and animated features.

Microsoft has money, but they really don’t seem to be interested in growing their gaming scene. Xbox has all but lost the console wars.
