Microsoft Lays Off 1900

I live in a northern state that gets cold and snow. The only parts of the construction industry that ‘get a break’ are probably dirt work (ie equipment like back hoe, and concrete) guys. I’ve seen welders, brick layers, siding etc doing red iron all the way down to zero degrees F. Heck they’ll even pour concrete… wrap it, heat it and pour.

I have to disagree here. Diablo 2 has a cult following.

Nah. I did a bit of that in Diablo II but it was largely pointless.

I guarantee the vast majority played D4 like a single player game, enjoyed it, and then uninstalled it. Those same people will probably come back for expansions, and be back for D5 if it happens.

So does the original Starcraft. Doesn’t mean they’re statistically relevant. That’s what “cult” means lol

At the same time its hard to argue that palworlds success will either lead to fatigue with the casual gamer or damage to the brand.

I know people are posting side by side comparisons of pal world to pokemon scarlet/violet/arceus and memeing about “guess which one is from the billion dollar company”

Quick TLDR:

  • Good source article.
  • MS laid off 1,900 across ATVI, Zenimax, and Xbox. Largest impact was ATVI.
  • Mike Ybarra leaving Blizzard.
  • Allan Adham (one of the Blizzard founders) leaving Blizzard.
  • Blizzard Survival game cancelled.
  • Article also cites the massive recent layoffs in other tech/gaming companies.

The layoffs come the same month Riot Games, Google, Discord, Twitch, Unity, eBay, and others announced cuts.

I feel horrible for ALL those impacted across industry. It sucks, tons. Esp if they moved to take a job. Cancelling the Survival game that has been years in development is painful. I know people had to have poured their hearts into that, and now I would guess with it being cancelled they are a part of the layoffs.

Speculation, but with the Microsoft acquisition, I would think a lot of the ATVI (stockholding corporate company over the game studios) roles are now redundant.

Keep huffing on that copium.

I aint spending 70-100$ on an expansion when they can’t even fix basic QoL things.

Heard the exact same things when I use to talk to people on their forums in Season 1. Haven’t touched it since the perma.

Bad rainstorm that knocked down power lines and trees? Electricians and tree cutters are getting big paychecks

Everyone needs plumbers cause there is no such thing as 100% non maintenance in waterlines

Everyone wants a white collar Job and there’s so many careers you can make in a blue collar

You’re clearly not representative of the average D4 player though lol

Most of them probably don’t even know the game has a forum.

It does suck yes, but this should be a reminder that the college guys probably need to look in another career field before they continue invest in the tech industry

Given the state of the US it’d more than likely they just ousted the last bit of competency.

I mean the very first thing i see is

“Season 3 feedback is overwhelmingly negative”.

And yea its only got a measly 54k. Ik how very few people are on the forums. Hell I’m probably the only one on at night.

Exactly what I did.

“I have to go in the office to work!??! I quit!!”

I did that for a year. It isn’t as glamorous as one would think.

A LOT of folks in gaming don’t have college degrees. It is one of the tech industry entry points that really does take personal experience into account for many positions. Self taught folks who can prove their skills and get results are welcomed. Programmers, artists, music, etc. Tons of other positions too. A degree is “nice to have” but not needed for a lot of things in gaming. Experience and a proven track record counts for something.

uh oh … i’m scared …

Hopefully out of the remaining 20,100 employees left on the gaming team can hopefully make a difference. As long as Metzen is still around , I have hopes it can survive.

Reminds me of this Palworld article that I saw the other day…
