Edit: looks like the ptr results were pulled back for the live game. Yet I do appreciate the conversation being had about rewards in general. Also the fact that mythic queen ashara changes were made that seemingly benefitted method have also made people curious as to what Blizzard does to favor method and the top tier of players over all other players. There is are a bunch of conversations below that come from player perspectives as to what we see and how the game developers make us feel. There is an idea that Activision Blizzards approach to this game is very oriented to the top 1% of guilds and there is a lot of disagreement over what that means. I feel that many decided to voice this frustration in this post. So I won’t delete my original post which was made before 8.2 was released. If anything is just goes to show the lack of communication on Blizzards side pre patch.
Original Post:
One of the biggest reasons why mythic plus is a success is the idea that we can progress to mythic level gear overa period of about 8-12 weeks for doing hard content that requires preparation and time investment. It has been one of the greatest things to come to this game that gave true rewards for the time you spend there to the players. Not anymore in Season 3.
Blizzard announced that they would bring down the weekly chest rewards to heroic level quality. This devalues the alternative progression path that Blizzard has layed out for us and caters only to mythic guilds. Many have deduced that the reason Blizzard is doing this is to please Method and mythic raiders that felt “compelled” to do mythic plus becasue the rewards were worth the time investment.
I do not think the game should be balanced solely around mythic raiders. They already have mythic raids designed for them and can severely outgear amy heroic raider that has a few mythic plus mythic quality pieces. For many classes the gear off raids has been cobsistently better than the gear off dungeons save one or two trinkets in specific scenarios.
Since Blizzard is reducing the reward of mythic plus I can only wait and see what it does to the system. I can only assume it will die faster in BFA Season 3. Once players hit that heroic level of 430 there will be little reason to keep dedicating 1+ hour of our time each week for mythic plus unless we want to spin the RNG machine.
What is worse is that there was nothing else given to us such as transmog that makes the pain of doing mythic plus worth it. If there were specific mogs given for each season of mythic plus achievements I would take the mogs with the heroic and farm them out to get the mogs as that is fun. However we are getting less valuable loot and no new good mogs from the original bfa dungeons. Mechagon wont be a part of the season of mythic plus.
So yea I am not sure if Blizzard wants to kill the community that love doing mythic plus for the rewards vut U can anticipate that will be the effect. Method might be the happy mythic world first team that doesnt have to run anymore mythic pluses. But you know what method, you also will have that many less carries you can sell for mythic plus dungeons. Less geared people for the mythic raiding content. Perhaps you will be getting everything you want.
But as for me I will shift my time to other games as the season ages. I am no longer a 6 month sub. Going at it a month at a time to cancel whenever.
Goodbye season 2 and goodbye reasonable mythic plus rewards.
Sucks that the reward system is catering to that 15% instead of the 85% that play it recreationally, you know like a game we want to have fun in. Blizzard should not be balancing the game around people who make this game their job. Make this challenging sure. Im up for a challenge. But dont give me the challenge and then nerf my reward because some people dedicate their work life to this game. I work to game. I dont game to work.
That is your opinion and we will see the results in game in due time. Most likely yhe mythic plus scene will dissapear and people at blizzard will panic. It can take 3 months + to get fully mythic geared by doing mythic plus. Mythic raiders can get this within the first month. I do not see the bad thing here.
Trust me the more people learn about this the more money they will lose. Personally I cancelled my sub but still have game time. So yes they will lose my dollar vote. Many others will likely follow.
Is this someone else who wrote a book before reading? M+ rewards will be back on par like they were for season 2 once mythic releases. Reading guys, do it.
You can tell on websites that track achievements. A while back I remember looking at ahead of the curve and in any given tier only about 20% of players get it.
So I’d say way less than 15% are mythic raiders.
If the M+ scene disappears solely because it doesn’t offer easier and better loot than Mythic Raiding, why should we mourn it’s loss?
And like Mcbraidsley said, it’s not going away. They’re just not properly starting S3 until the raid is out so you can’t just spam +10’s for the equivalent of full heroic gear.
I believe Braid but I’m driving to work so won’t double check. Either way- doing easy 10s with 5 ppl shouldn’t give the same IL gear as 20 man mythic raids
People will still prob go for keystone master for the essence unlock, but ya if that’s true then m+ will be sorta dead after the first few weeks. I think they should have just spread it out more so +15s or +20s give mythic gear instead of +10 which is really easy
I remember a blue in the eu forums saying once that they didn’t wanna go back to sub 1% of the player base only experiencing the end game content. The mythic raiders or max raiders for their time has always been so abysmally small.
I’d be curious to know if it’s ever reached more than 5% of total players for the hardest content beat in the end of each expansion/base game. I don’t believe it has.
I wasn’t attacking you for your guess, just putting out there that it’s never been shown to be that high at any point because of how exclusive very end game is. Even worse now in some ways given how much better you have to be for most of the encounters versus something like vanilla wow raiding that is the equivalent of raid finder.
So this is a legitimate question, as i know how it’s worked in the past, and haven’t heard any news this time around. Are you sure they are lowering it overall, or is it just capped at a +6 reward for the first week like it was in season 2?
1.21% have Jaina CE.
13.44% have Jaina AotC.
6.94% have Mythic Grong
6.51% have Mythic Jadefire (this is important since Grong is the second boss for Horde and Jadefire the second for Alliance).
So I reckon about 7% of the WoW population give or take could be considered Mythic Raiders. Probably less if you factor in bosses that are still pretty easy to PuG like Jadefire/Grong.
Actually lowering M+ rewards would be massive news, so my guess is that they’re just capping the reward until TEP is out.
I thought running M+ wasn’t about the gear? I absolutely despise M+ myself. I always thought dungeons should be just a rung in the ladder for getting geared for raids, not handing out raid level gear.
I personally think M+ has completely disrupted classes too. Trying to balance all the classes around this type of over tuned content kind of has ruined for everyone in my opinion.
M+ was a lazy attempt to keep dungeon runners engaged for longer periods of time. It is just another part of Blizzard’s lazy approach to the game now, by adding yet another form of scaling content that really doesn’t have an end goal.
If you love this stuff and don’t care about new content, then more power to you. I personally think we are sacrificing a lot of new content by just being satisfied running the same stuff over and over.
Blizzard has tricked a lot of people into settling for less content.
