Method has bought Wago io

Method has now acquired onwership of Wago io. Should be interesting to see where that leads.

The what in the what now?

Wago IO is a website that acts as a repository for Weak Auras.

Method, the world first raiding guild and global Esports organization have acquired and purchased ownership of the site.

I don’t know what that is. Can you explain what that is for us kids in the back?

Kind of an odd purchase. Wago does what it’s supposed to do but it’s not particularly good… lots of awkwardness in its UI.

Weak Auras is an addon that displays cool downs on your abilities.

Its an added customization to your UI that allows you to track your most important abilities without darting your eyes all over the place.

Mostly used by players who raid high end, or push high mythic keys.

Wago IO is a site that acts a database for player made presets of these weak auras.

Weak Auras is an addon that can do a very wide variety of things - basically a one-stop-shop for information displaying on your screen, with enough customization to be exactly hat you want/need from it. It’s not just limited to displaying cooldowns. Sometimes it gets so overpowered Blizzard has to change code to break certain WeakAura set-ups because they make certain boss mechanics not even matter (e.g. instantly marking the correct Skitra clone to kill).

Wago io (based on my understanding, never personally used it) stores pre-made set-ups for WeakAuras.

Wonder what would happen if someone put up a similarly game-changing WA and Method wanted to hide it from their competition.

Sorry, you lost me there, can you explain?

lmao

Not sure why they would want to buy the site that basically acts as a repository for IO scripts. I heard they work with IO to have custom scripts built for them during the “world first” races. Buying the site just doesn’t seem to make sense, it’s not like they can market the scripts themselves.

As someone that just casually uses WA2 and has never used someone elses WA string, does this potentially change anything for me? Or, is it just the site that store the codes for sharing?

I don’t really know enough about Method or Wago to know what kind of interesting leads this could have. But, I would like to know! Sorry.

Ummmmmmmmmm, so, what’s to prevent them from changing the code so it doesn’t work as well for others? Like they have a program on their machines so it shows them more data, faster, better, etc.

Seems like a major conflict of interest here since they earn a living by being world first basically. Thinking this addon should now be banned from progression usage.

at this time, no

yes

Not really. It shouldn’t impact anyone, unless you use the site personally.

It’s just a curious purchase by Method. The loss of world first N’zoth seems to have really struck a nerve over there. This is one of many odd moves by them recently.

my guess

and this is pure speculation

is that we will see a subscription point of access, in the future. “subscribe to wago premium for extra benefits” kind of thing.

My first thought was that it’s a marketing decision to help spread their image.

Edit to add: Anna has an interesting take, too. That could occur

That would certainly be a huge turn off from the site for me.

If they did that, someone would just open up a new “Wago IO” and tell Method to take a hike as no one uploads to their site any more and eventually everything becomes out of data and the site is worthless.

I honestly don’t see their play here, unless they did it because the site was going under and they are strong supporters of WA themselves and are doing this to help out.

For the unaware, WeakAuras has been around for many, many years and is almost universally used by all Cutting Edge raiders. But it has applications far outside raiding, to every aspect of gameplay.

When people who don’t raid talk about addons being too important in raiding, and mistakently point at DBM, they’re just showing how little they know. The most powerful addon in the game, by far, is WeakAuras.
