Yup. Went through it last night and he wasn’t there. Saw there was a small patch today and went through the whole thing again because my progress wasn’t saved for some reason just to get the same result. Even though I completed the quest that lists “Portal to Dornogal” as a reward, still no portal to Dornogal in Orgrimmar. My War Within starter questline is nowhere to be found. Luckily, if you do the tutorial from the Adventure Guide, you can get a teleport to Dornogal and bind your Hearthstone to the Inn there, which is what I did. It really shouldn’t be this hard for returning players to get started on the current expansion.

I have the same problem. ran the quest twice on 1 character and again on a new character. I won’t be flying soon lol

Merrix is in his chair for me! Except, I can’t talk to him. I also don’t have recap: shadowy pursuits completed so Merrix and I just stare at each other waiting for a bug fix.

yep this is messed up. worked for me, broken for friend.

This needs to be fixed. I came back to WoW 2 days ago. Was excited there was a catch-up mechanic so I can catch up with friends. Now I’m stuck and can’t make any progress because of the issue already described here by so many others. I can’t even do the original (non-catch up) campaign as that is not offered to me (not even on other characters). I’m stuck having paid for something I can’t play.

having same problem all Blizz does is send everyone here to complain and doesn’t do anything about it as usual.

Ok, I have just spent all evening trying to find a fix for this with my very clever friend, and we just got a workaround. I ended up dropping everything from the catchup and went to the library area in Stormwind Castle (not sure what the equivalent is for the horde) and there is a scroll there, something about a message from Khadgar that has a quest. You might need to enable low level quests to be able to see it. Pick that up and it will take you to Dalaran to start the precursor quest where you run around with Aleria, and will eventually lead into the defence of Dalaran and teleporting to Khaz Algar. At one point I thought I’d run out of quests as I handed one in and didn’t see the next one. I highly recommend getting the BtWQuests addon, because I was able to look and see that the next quest came from Moira, even though I didn’t see a quest icon above her, when I clicked her she had the quest. I got back to khaz algar and completed the introduction, so now I have flying, and I bound my hearthstone so I can get back. I am not game to try doing the Catch Up again, but have started going through the regular questing. Hope this helps some people!
Big shout out to my wonderful, patient friend who flew my butt around looking for quests, and was the one who eventually remembered seeing the scroll with the quest!

This is a MAJOR ISSUE no new acct appears to be able to access the war within into campagn if they have not done it before. The recap is bugged for all new accts that have not had a character already complete the intro campaign. WE NEED A FIX>

I have this bug as well, ability to fly is gone, and Merrix is missing from his throne.

You are a saint. It was a pain in the rear to find and follow the quests, but i was able to unlock flying in Dornogal and get the portal to Dornogal from Stormwind. Thank you so much for finding and sharing the work around!

Seriously, how was this overlooked and been allowed to remain? Why have the GMs not made reports to programmers. This isn’t a small thread. GMs are little more that Tier 1 help desk, instead of pointing at unhelpful wow head pages they need to escalate the tickets!

So I got Merrix to appear in his chair but he still won’t forward the recap. If you leave your recap and then go into your adventure manual you can get the quest that sends you to silithis and starts the regular way of starting the expansion (make sure to enable showing lower level quests if you leveled up a bit in recap). You can then get to Dornogal and get skyriding and a hearth there. If you go back to the recap and continue he will be in the chair but still can’t forward through the quest. My guess is you have to complete through the actual campaign to a certain point to get through the bug. Not sure if the recap is worth it unless you are just leveling quickly and getting upgraded gear.
Blizz all of your new War Within players are stuck, please fix this trigger.

I too am having this issue. I at least got a mage in Orgimarr to make me a port to Dornogal so I could proceed with the normal quests. Very frustrating though.
I have done this on two characters now, same issue on both and stuck at the same point.
Additional information:
While timewalking in the recap mode, I can fly. But if I leave the recap, then I get the debuff, but since I have completed the quest, it no longer exists to be able to do the intro quest to get the skyriding, so I am completely broken on my main 2 characters.
best part is a blizzard ticket can be made and they are too stupid to understand its a campaign quest. I was told you must complete the campaign to turn it in what?
