Merge servers to save cata

Most servers are so dead that if you want to do heroic 25m raids, you have only like 2-3 guilds to choose from. This led to even more people quitting because so few raids are being run + limited slots.

Pls merge all us/eu realms into 2-3 realms, and merge all servers in less populated regions like taiwan/asia, korea, etc into just one realm per region.

Agreed. The population is small enough for one server to suffice and it would make the game look much more active with everyone on the same server

i mean i still see a decent amount of player’s on mankirk.

Couldn’t agree more. As someone who has to recruit people for raids, it’s not easy when there’s 15 different people looking for more and nobody to choose from.

It’s not even a matter of blizz pinching pennies to save on transfers, my guild transferred from Whitemane to Faerlina and while it is a slight improvement we still have the struggle. It’s really discouraging when the only 2 options are either struggle finding someone so you can raid with mostly the same people every week, or abandon any sense of a community and raid with strangers every week.

Why not, instead of using servers just allow people to choose layer density? If people don’t want to be surrounded by 100 people in org/sw, make that an option.

I think you’re probably coming from a place of good intentions, but this will displace everyone who is happy with the faction balance and size of the realms they currently play on.

And yep, it’s likely some minority groups here and there that will be the most displaced, but we don’t know how much influence they have of the majority, and these types of sweeping changes could have negative impact.

What a total cop out.

A small subset of a small subset of users might get upset so we should do nothing.

Oh you think?

So who cares about any group of minorities (or even the majority of players who have formed the way they are on their own), just force whatever you want on everyone?

OK.

There’s nothing to prevent Blizz from allowing people to remain on dead realms. They did it before in TBC by offering a free transfer.

They also had free transfers between Benediction and Faerlina during Wrath Classic for a couple of months.

My favorite experiences in Cata Classic have been on Faerlina Alliance, which has opened my eyes up to the benefits of small community on largely faction imbalanced realms. Of course that’s a preference of mine, and I’m not trying to force it on anybody else. I’m just pointing out that there’s a significant enough number of people who have opted to build and contribute to that community and it’s awesome.

Yep. Meanwhile…in era fresh.

East coast is not 100% happy they hit a mountain server. West coast is close enough its less an issue.

And then comes the layering. A gripe in era of late.

And the oce debate. See some resolved we don’t like the oce killing our ping. We hide being on this side of the world. We are now name-dreamscythe. With an oce or my case Japan based link. Same as I do as Name-atiesh here lol.

One server….one name. Is it an Aussie, a kiwi, Or a farm boy deep in the sticks of Iowa killing the ping?

I’ve very happy with the population of Atiesh and don’t want to merge with any server that would significantly increase it. Atiesh is 95% alli so I wouldn’t mind merging with a server that’s 95% horde but I don’t want a merger that would significantly increase the alli pop.

PLEASE do not merge the servers, people can pay for transfers. I like it nice and quiet.

What should be done is they lock the megaservers, unlock the lower pop servers and allow free transfers to those servers. That’s what should have been done in the first place, but Blizz did the opposite. They love their megaservers.

Sounds like they should do the opposite. Offer free transfers to the mega servers. The people who like the small servers are not forced to leave and the people who want to play on larger servers get to do so for free. Seems like a win-win based on reading this thread.

Its actually funny there are players who “love the small servers” then cry because “they can’t raid because they can’t fill groups” Cata Population is dying and its only going to get worse when mop comes out followed by the launch of TBC anniversary realm lol.

On the ‘crowded’ Benediction Ally server, get maybe 1 group every 3 days worth a crap. Can we please get only 1 PVP and 1 PVE and 1 RP server only for Cata? you did 3 for Era, we don’t need more than that .

Um…that’s exactly what they did. And it was the polar opposite of what they should have done. They should have a couple healthy servers. Not 1 megaserver. Those things are terrible.

Why are they terrible?

Edit:
Expanding so I can be clearer this isn’t a troll post. The pros of mega servers or just letting everything be cross server like current retail is you have a bigger population to do grouped content with. This has already been implemented for 5 mans in Cata and without it, many servers wouldn’t be able to do 5 mans.

What cons am I missing?
