Just curious what the best/fastest ram I can use in my system is. Looking over memory support info on the Gigabyte site just has me feeling lost. I’m apparently too dumb to figure this out on my own.
If I list my specs, can someone smarter than me help me figure this out please?
Mobo:
Gigabyte X 670 Gaming X AX V2
CPU:
Ryzen 7800 X3D
Cooler:
Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT
Current ram:
G.SKILL Trident Z5 Neo RGB Series (AMD Expo) DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MT/s CL30-38-38-96 1.35V
I’m sure Swifty will come in soon and reply as AMD X3D CPUs & RAM are more his domain but from my understanding they are not as dependent on RAM timing and frequency as Intel CPUs with DDR5. It may help if you state what are you trying to achieve with faster RAM?
If you want to see what others use, Techspot/Hardware Unboxed use G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5-6000 CL30 on their benchmark Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master and Corsair recommends their Dominator Titanium DDR5-6000 CL30 for the 7800 X3D. You can look them up to see if they are Samsung or Hynix chips (my guess is Hynix)
nothing particular in mind, just messing around for info, curiosity, tossing the idea around of upgrading to 64GB of ram & maybe just blowing some money on something I don’t even need, that kinda thing…
your current RAM is plenty fast, same as the one the used for HuB in testing so my guess is you would not see any real world difference in an “upgrade”
your GPU bottlenecked with the 6700 XT so if it was my PC, I would start saving to replace that as I believe you have a 1440p 144hz (or 165hz) monitor
make a list of games you want to play besides WoW and keep tabs on their hardware specs and graphic reviews for video performance. CPU & RAM wise, you have nothing to worry about for years.
running a crappy game at higher FPS just means you are still running a crappy game, making it run faster changes nothing. Enjoy the games you play, turn off the FPS counter.
I have a pretty good memory (just don’t ask my wife)
Your CPU will run with any GPU out there right now. So really it’s up to you.
Make a list of games you want to play. Check out some web site reviews of video cards on those games. I like Techpowerup, techspot, eurogamer, tomshardware as they have nice large game suites. See what delivers close to your max refresh rate and your desired settings. If that’s within your budget, fantastic. If not, adjust your desired expectations (lower settings and/or lower fps) to what is within your budget.
6200mhz is as fast as you can go KEEPING 1:1 Ratio with FCLK. With that said not all CPUs are capable of that. Its all about silicon Quality. RAM speed means next to nothing on the X3D CPUs
However once you hit 7800mhz the 1:1 no longer matters. You have surpassed the need for that. But you would need a x870e Motherboard to get guaranteed that type of speed is fully stable. You would also NEED to be on a 9000 series CPU
lily was saying that too! If I were a betting man for the battle of the brains tag team tournament, I’d totally stake my gold on you and lily for the winning team.
I’ll stick with my stuffs then and go peek around at new gpu options hehe…
not to get too off topic but Videocardz posted internal Nvidia benchmarks for RTX5xxx while most were with DLSS, Resident Evil was pure rasterization with RT and the RTX5070 came in at a 20% increase over the RTX4070…so not so comparable to the RTX4090 at least in that game
You kind of have to to be honest on a 7000 series. 9000 series with the right x870e mobo can do 8000mhz but like I said you are on a X3D CPU. The X3D CPUs allows the processor to store more frequently accessed game data on-chip instead of relying on RAM, leading to faster access times. This is why Ram Speed doesnt matter as much. If you were on a non-X3D CPU then you would HAVE to have faster ram. Luckily you are on the 7800x3D and dont.
Not needing super fast Ram on a x3D CPU is one if their biggest selling points
That is a good idea. Id look at your budget and consider the new 5000 series card from Nvidia. However will till 3rd party reviews are out to choose. As a Side note in the meantime look into Undervolting. Learn a few things from youtube on that. Undervolting your 7800x3D will not only give you better temps but better performance too.
If you want something basic that EVERY CHIP can do? Set Curve Optimizer to “negative offset” aka -15 All Core and call it a day.
Beyond that it depends on your specific chip and silicon lottery. It would take a lot of testing and tweaking. What I said above is the EZ way for Novice users
would you also enable the expo ram profile? any other tweaks you’d twist a bit?
I’ve noticed on my gigabyte board with this new Turbo X3D mode in bios that recently came out not long ago, when I enable that, other settings like messing with the curve optimizer don’t really seem to do anything. I don’t get all the why’s of it all, but it seems like I need to disable the Turbo X3D if I want to do anything with undervolting.
