Meme Specs: Relax, it's not your decision. Let it go šŸ„³

This is what Iā€™m trying to grasp too :joy:

This whole ā€œmemeā€ spec thing is quite new to me as well coming from Vanilla.

thatā€™s because WoW doesnā€™t have meme specs, it has troll specs

This is the hard core min/max crowd that believe for whatever reason, that you cannot complete any meaningful group or raid content unless you use a very specific build with very specific gear to obtain min/max approved status. #rollseyes

min/max players and their guilds cant stand to see other players and guilds succeed using non min/max builds and having fun.

Why do you keep seeing a lot of these min/max trolls and elitist mind sets continue to post on these forums trying to bash anyone who doesnā€™t conform to their views?

A lot of players learned to grow up some time ago, but you will always have others who require that ego driven, self centered, ā€œI am right and you are wrongā€ mindsets that simply cannot accept that this game was never designed around min/max builds in the first place =)

Plenty of videos out there show casing from back in the time of old, where guilds and groups of players were able to complete a lot of raid content in good gear that wasnā€™t ā€œoptimalā€ and using specs that werenā€™t all cookie cutter.

If they want to do a raid in any form of a guild other than a casual guild: They would be laughed and turned down left and right.

Guilds will have Ret paladins, Enhance shamans, Shadow priests, Feral / Balance druids.

If that triggers anyone they need to wake up and realize this isnā€™t Vanilla WoW 2004. Itā€™s Classic WoW 2019 - people are better, smarter, more efficient and understand the game better as a whole. There isnā€™t 8 debuff slots from launch this time around, thereā€™s 16.

MC, ZG and even AQ20 are quite easily doable without ideal min/max raid setups and people wonā€™t be as hardcore about it these days, they will be a lot more laid back in allowing these (I refuse to say it) less efficient PVE specs to join.

Realistically unless youā€™re going for server firsts or speedruns then thereā€™s not really a point to min-maxing to the crap house is there? I mean most of these ā€œmemeā€ specs perform quite well in pvp and decently in dungeons. IF you are min-maxing then sure you want to be as optimised as possible, if not then taking a reliable player who plays a ā€œmemeā€ spec wonā€™t be that detrimental to the raid.

In regards to Alexsensual, he mentions it was the meme specs who ruined wow. He fails to realise the class dev for ret paladins wasnā€™t even finished and that blizz worked off via a check list of classes that werenā€™t included in a party to try and figure out what their issues were. Low and behold all the meme spec classes were ALWAYS included because they had 1 viable spec.

Regardless though, just play whatever you want and Iā€™ll see you hordies on the battlefield.

Per Google ā€œmeme specā€ started to be used only around 2016. In some gaming communities ā€œmemeā€ has become synonymous with ā€œjokeā€ even though this is ā€¦ not an accurate use of ā€œmemeā€ at all.

In a more realistic approach for raiding purposes, I can see a decent guild requiring DPS to show a sustainable DPS rate of X in order to clear each tier of raid bosses.

You can test your dps with a few addons and fighting a target dummy for 5-10 min which allows you to go through several rounds of your cool downs, rotations, etc, to get a decent view of your ā€œsustainedā€ dps vs just a burst dps view.

Allow any spec to then test their build and rotations on the test dummy and see if they meet that dps threshold. If so, give em a shot, simple as that.

I remember having to do dps tests in SWTOR in a similar method, where we would get to a certain spot in a raid instance and then be given a specific object to kill within X amount of time.

I remember researching, learning, and mastering rotations for a few ā€œnon-optimalā€ builds with a Jedi Knight, (Guardian no less) and out shined most of the other melee builds as a result.

Needless to say I was still benched because of #disbelief even though I continued to prove my value time and time again with every ā€œqualifierā€ challenge the guild did to rank DPS, it was the raid leaders ego and attitude of not using me that lead to their eventual downfall, because they couldnā€™t respect other players who proved them wrong

I see the same thing happening in Classic WoW, in which there are going to be some very solid ā€œnon-cookie cutterā€ specs that are going to do just as well if not out perform in many areas of raiding, but because of elitist, ego driven mind sets, will still be scoffed at because #reasons. :open_mouth:

Okā€¦ So I roll an off-spec, I wonā€™t be able to raid with Method?

Butā€¦ Iā€™ll still be allowed to play the game, right?

I think Iā€™ll be ok.

sure you can do raids without being fully optimal, but who wants to choose to take longer and wipe more often? not most people iā€™m sure

try your best or accept that there will be many people who wonā€™t want to carry you, and find those who are willing

It wasnā€™t invented in BFA either. Wish people would stop trying to equate everything they think sounds stupid to the modern player. Itā€™s understood, you donā€™t like the game.

Now that my mini-rant is out of the way, as far as Iā€™ve understood the term in the past, a ā€œmemeā€ spec was something that was entirely situational, a one trick pony spec that had some stupid yet effective little talent build or mechanic.

A perfect example being the 3 minute mage. Once every 3 minutes it could pair a few cooldowns together in a macro to 1 shot almost any player regardless of skill, gear, or health pool, but then it was absolutely useless until those cdā€™s came back up three minutes later.

Iā€™ve never heard of sub par specs or classes being referred to as ā€œmemeā€ specs, but I guess the terminology changed at some point?

Ever heard of friends? Sometimes they play these specs. Are they not allowed to join your raid now?

Not everyone cares about downing a boss a bit sooner. Itā€™s to have fun at the end of the day. Min/maxers will be the minority.

i wouldnā€™t bring any friends to raids who wonā€™t try their best, no

But youā€™d force your friends to play a spec they might not enjoy, otherwise they donā€™t get an invite?

LOL kk gotcha

You heard it here first, folks.

This would at least sort-of make sense. A ā€œmeme specā€ would be a spec that is useful for making memes or memeable moments. Kind of like the ā€œReddit Lucioā€ in Overwatch.

But that is not how people have actually been using ā€œmeme specā€ lately. Itā€™s just used as ā€œbad spec.ā€

Who said it would take more time, or that the raid would wipe more often? Letā€™s be honest here, I have seen a lot of ā€œmin/maxā€ raids wipe just as much, if not more times than raid groups that have good builds and donā€™t wipe.

Most of the time the raid wiping has more to do with your raiders not paying attention to situational awareness or moving out of those area hits that the boss or raid mechanics throw at you.

What happens when non-cookie cutter raid groups out shine the min/max crowd (and they will, countless times in Classic) because they donā€™t wipe, while the min/max raids wipe even 1x that instantly sets you back all that time spent?

It really comes down to player skill, understanding how to play their spec well, and situational awareness, and not some min/max build that lacks even 1 of these mentions.

Is this the latest thing to argue about? Everyone have fun with the brick wall.

just like i forced them to level up to join the raid even though they hate grinding. some times you gotta do things you donā€™t want to do to do the things you do want to do.

if you want to raid as a troll spec, sure go ahead, just not with me thanks.

I tend to agree that people who concern themselves with how otherā€™s choose to play the game are obnoxious.

But people who let otherā€™s dictate how they should play also irritate me. No one is the boss here. Do what you want. Talent the way you want. Gank the way you want. Ninja if you want to. If a guild tries to boss you around, /gquit will take care of it.

Set you own course. Just donā€™t expect others to accommodate your choices either.

As for me, my main and all my alts will be talented the way I want for purposes of pvp. I donā€™t expect to ever set foot in a raid.
