Let’s get it out of the way that shadow priests and warlocks are OP. The rest of the ranged are not. Okay, let the conversation begin.
It’s too easy for melee to do damage. What’s the point of playing a class that has to cast? The old tradeoff was ranged classes have the advantage of range, and melee f*** you up when and if they make it to you. This balance is out of whack when melee have infinite uptime.
As a mage I probably have the best tools to deal with melee uptime. I have 2 blinks, displacement, slows, alter time, 2 roots, CC – and none of this matters. For every tool I have, melee has an answer to trade. I can delay them for a few seconds but they’re right back on me almost immediately. I’m spending the entire game frantically dancing around the arena, trying not to die. Every time they touch me I’m seconds away from losing the game. In the meantime, I’m spending every global on living and kiting and not on damage.
Whereas melee are playing to get a kill, ranged are playing to not die. Unless you want every match to be melee cleaves bashing their heads against each other, ranged classes need tools to effectively live, kite, and get out their damage.

Mages got used to being invulnerable gods with triune ward. It sounds like a skill issue. Arcane is still A+ tier you just need to learn to play.
I queued 1800-2100 this weekend as an spriest and every match was 3 braindead melees who tried to kill me and ultimately failed. I went 5-1 or 6-0 every match got an easy 2100 and called it a night.

Please refer to the above: SP is OP. Congrats.

The cc nerf across the board was an indirect buff to melee. They’re harder to peel and have more uptime.
There isn’t much they can do mobility wise without affecting PvE unfortunately. Unless blizzard was to start banning certain talents from PvP which starts a slippery slope.

Yeah SP is OP that is true. I’m used to playing a B tier spec so when I’m actually OP I recognize it is unfair. Mages on the other hand - you have been the S++ tier god class since 2004 so now that you’re a+ tier it feels unplayable.
Btw I’m glad they are nerfing the spriest 1 shot because it is a no skill OP build. Just dot and stall for 1 min then 1 shot someone rinse and repeat. I actually had to spec out of it because it wasn’t challenging / fun.

Enjoy it while it lasts. I predict a huge nerf bat to shadowpriests. I really dislike that they go after toolkits like I’m seeing the nerfs to vampiric embrace and offhealing. I think that’s a mistake and taking away spec identity. I’d rather they nerfed the damage before the toolkit but blizzard will do what they want

I dont think its that simple anymore, We aren’t playing classic where a melee touches you and auto attacks you for a third of your health. Melee require uptime now to kill things and even rooting them for 5-6 seconds brings down pressure. And honestly smart melee have to care more about positioning than casters do. If you mongo dive behind a pillar you line your healer or put them into a bad position to get cc’d. If you put melee uptime back to classic levels you would literally have to change how their entire damage kit works because they would never kill anything with current damage and low uptime

The one shot is nerfed as of Tuesday. The fear mindbender gets a 10% damage nerf and shadow word death gets a 20% nerf. My shadow word deaths were hitting for 130k - this build was a joke and I’m glad it’s getting nerfed to the ground.
Next week spriest is going to basically be an aff lock with better utility though. These dots are gonna pump.

To tie it back to my original points, you have damnation and shadow crash spreading your dots instantly. Do you remember BFA spriest who had to hardcast vampiric touch to spread dots? Do you remember getting kicked on shadow during this time and getting tunnelled into the ground? That’s what every other caster is dealing with now. Just because your class has been given training wheels does not mean melee are okay right now.

Absolutely in no way does a mage actually think he is underpowered, right???

You have infinite cc , two blinks, shields, alter , two ice blocks. I haven’t played mage this expac but it’s hard for me to imagine it’s actually unplayable. From my outside perspective , what you are talking about right now basically feels how every other caster has felt for years.
You gotta learn to fake cast and outplay the zugs. You no longer have a permanent life cocoon on you. Realize that at 2100 the DH/fury training you is legit like 1600 skill. When a spec is OP they just end up in a bracket 500CR above their skill so the melee at your level will always be worse than you.
You forgot about the casters that are out of control.

Really because I’m pretty sure it’s in the very first sentence of my post, ya know, the first thing you read.

you can press n on your keyboard and click arcane - but it’s not like your spec isn’t viable to get rating

Why would I read the wall of text Spewed by the same bad casters?
Spriest, 2/3 lock specs, ele, arcane all super super strong.
Yes, some melee need tuning but so do some casters
