Megathread: Twilight Highlands Allied Races - DRAGONMAW Orcs and WILDHAMMER Dwarves

Hi past me!
Ogres still suck
Hard pass on adding them

Still despise this. Like, just having a racial invalidates the fantasy or something.
“You can’t pretend you’re a Wildhammer Shaman because you have Standard Dwarf Racials!”
Something like that. Eh, whatever. I hated that Mag’har were a separate race as well but this is where we are.

Folk are welcome to roleplay what they want. if its good enough for them then great!

I will continue to ask for the real thing. I do believe they’re more than different enough given the context of the other Allied Races and that they deserve their place.

Dragonmaw would be fun, it would give reason to make an rp guild and hang out in twilight highlands.

and the guild gives you a quest to “tame” a dragon and a few lowbies and and max levels go to northrend and hit up the obsidian sanctum for that dragon mount

You can already use Wildhammer tattoos I think. What is missing now is the Dragonmaw options for normal Orcs.

I think they mostly use Proto Drakes now don’t they?

LotR:O did something novel - they allowed you to pick your “homeland” during character creation. Beyond giving you a title in-game to note your origin, it also slightly restricted the available customization options and expanded others to give a few unique flavours.

While I appreciate the extremes of diversity that the Allied Race system has given us, I do wonder if the LotR:O system would have been a better option long-term.

When creating a Dwarf, choosing “Wildhammer” could give you a few new hairstyles, feathery baubles, and tattoo colours, but restrict your hair colours to hues of orange. This would avoid the “Wildhammer Dwarf and High Elf cosplay” problem we’ve stumbled into.

Humans could create Alteraci, Arathi, and Dalaran varieties with slight tweaks. Orcs could get Dragonmaw and Fel skins. Trolls could be labelled as Jungle, Forest, Dark, or Sand Trolls. They could accomodate so much.

That being said, I do believe that Wildhammer and Dragonmaw both are worthy of the full Allied Race treatment themselves. Especially if they get the Dark Iron treatment and get their unique traits dialed up to 11 and expanded upon to make them even more striking.

Because Wildhammer are taller than other Dwarves, I think it’s safe to say the Wildhammer have the same size as the Earthen.

New look of Kurdran Wildhammer.

As I saw it on the Draenei heritage quest, it’s possible to say you are a Wildhammer Dwarf with the Wildhammer Dwarf skin on Dwarf. As you can see it here:

https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Emergency_Efforts

Arzaal can know if you have the Man’ari Eredar skin or not and he will have a special interaction with you if you have this customization. So it would be nice to get the same thing for the Wildhammer Dwarf skin on Dwarf.

Same thing when we will get the Dragonmaw Orc skin for Orcs.

I hope we could get a quest to unlock the Dragonmaw Orc skin options for Orcs in a near future because this race is already in the Horde and it could be a nice add for the Horde after Alliance got Wildhammer Dwarves, High Elves and Man’ari Eredar as skin option. Horde needs to get its “subraces” too.

Even better if we get actual AR’s for both since they both clearly make the requirements of an AR.

No thanks, customisation will suffice, i don’t want to pay a race change to get something i should had as options for years now

I’d love me some Wildhammers. It’s just not the same without unique racials, heritage armor, and mount. I guess they could do a second one for dwarves, unlocking all of that stuff but requiring you to use the Wildhammer customization options to use? It’s messy though, it should have just been an AR.

Remove the Wildhammer options from Bronzebeard dwarves, expand and use them for the AR, then give Bronzebeards different expanded customization options (borrow metallic beards from Earthen>literal Bronzebeards maybe?).

Honestly, just knowing that when someone hovers over your character and sees “Wildhammer Dwarf” goes a lot further than one would think. Just ask the High Elf proponents.

So a 4th Dwarf Race and a 3rd Orc Race?

Both are insta no’s straight off the rip.

Need Ogres and heaps more races before these should even get a look in.

I think Blizzard should add at least all the races that have already joined their respective factions.

Ogres, Furbolg, Wildhammer, Revantusk, Taunka, Frostborn, Hozen, Jinyu, Kelfin, Ankoan.

Then add in some of the fan favorites and neutral races like the San’layn, Sethrak, Ethereals, Broken, Mogu, Saberon, Saurok, Alteraci, Vrykul ect.

But both the Wildhammer and the Dragonmaw deserve far more than customizations.

This really highlights the need for Sub-Race as a thing.

The whole intent of the Allied Race system was to utilize existing assets to expand options. Just like the Lightforged that you are.

Cool post. I’ll have to finish reading it all later today (probably during my lunch). But nicely done.
