No reason for ad hominem.
A race with no class options is a race with no future; the Dracthyr die once Dragonflight ends.
I call 'em like I see 'em. Being told my dragon āsuper-soldierā can just never learn how to pick up and swing a sword or use a shield is beyond goofy.

Ah, ok. I thought you were talking about the dragonkin or draconid and was like
New lore?
Carry on. (hope Dracthyr get more classes later and we can use any race as our visage)
Saying āI donāt like thisā is fine.
Ignoring the provided canon reasoning and calling someone who explains it to you ālameā because you disagree with them is not constructive.
A race with no class options is a race with no future
Could you go more in depth here? Many races continued to have their narratives progressed in the absence of class additions. Others, I would argue, actively suffered with their previously strong identities when classes were added to them, diluting their fantasy if not ākillingā it outright.
Those races still had other avenues to explore and express themselves; Tyrande went from Priestess to Warrrior, Anduinās shifted classes multiple times, and wider variety of class availability to a race increases the amount of stories one can tell with said race. Dracthyr Evoker stories are pretty much done once Dragonflight ends. Not only that, but if youāre not going to incorporate what you find in the wider world into your lifestyles, why bother exploring the world? Your mission is complete, youāve secured the Dragon Isles and can power down again for the next 10,000 years. Itās why Demon Hunters are so awkward to find anywhere other than Legion; they should actually be either in stasis or dead because thereās no more demons to take down. At worst itās an ULTRAKILL situation where DHs are racing to confront the last scraps of demons remaining just to keep themselves sane and busy.
Plus, thereās no more hype of expanding on options for the Dracthyr if theyāre doomed to remain singular-class; itās going to be a portrait you never run more than maybe twice for the faction lines and thatās it.
One-class races are a bad idea, straight up, and Blizzard is gutless for trying to pass that off as an expansion feature.
Iāve read through some of the comments, not really understanding any of the ones with negative feedback. Donāt get me wrong everyone is entitled to their own opinion but why not have them as a playable race? All and all this is a game for fun, it doesnāt make all sort of sense for Tauren to be rogues but here we are. Not to mention the other exceptions throughout the game (such as shaman and druid). The models remind me of āDragonbornā from DnD, and it would be absolutely amazing to be able to play as them.
The only things dragons should exist for are mounts and raid bosses.
Iām all for Drakonid as playable characters, 100%. I have zero support for the OPās āvisionā however because it locks Dracthyr into one-note status and is a terrible idea.
And zombies should be low level experience fodder.
finally a dragon that can wears all slots
We are the winning team during a zombie apocalypse.
Youāre still just fodder to the main characters during a zombie apocalypse.
Getting a lot of mileage out of BG3 for my āplayable dragon manā needs.
I have to say that my hope is dead. Dragonflight was the obvious opportunity for playable Drakonid, and with it fading into hype for TWW, so too fades the chances of an eleventh hour addition.
It does make me wonder if plans changed mid-development. It feels really strange to have that whole quest line with rebel Dragonkin reconciling with the dragonflights and then heading off into the wider world as, functionally, independent adventurers, without a payoff. It really felt structured to introduce us to a new playable race. But I suppose the writers are more agile than the artists and were able to get the quest out before plans changed.
Entirely speculative, but I will always wonder what, if anything, happened there.

I get that feeling, but there always is the possible of that switch flipping. After all the AU Magāhar donāt have an obvious connection with Battle for Azeroth like the other allied races and weāre still included.
Itās just a matter of Blizzard deciding when and where to include a playable race. Sometimes they have obvious connections with the expansion setting such as the Pandaren with Mists or the Zandalari in BfA with Zandalar. Other times they have donāt as seen with the AU Magāhar.
I meanā¦ weāre 20 years in. Part of the excitement of a new race is the knowledge that thereās more ahead of you that you can now experience with that new race than there is behind you.
With how formulaic WoW has become and the revolving door of upper managementā¦ the excitement for me just isnāt there when Iām questioning not only if the game has a future, but also if that future is one that I would be excited by. The tone of this franchise has shifted away from what attracted me in the first place.
Getting Dracthyr and not Drakonid is symptomatic of that (even if I enjoy Dracthyr in their own way). Same goes for getting Void Elves and not High Elves. Vulpera and not Ogres. Hell, Blood Elves being involved with the Horde at allā¦ piece by piece, this franchise has become a ship of Theseus. It still says WarCraft on the box, but the constituent parts of what that name represents have been altered and replaced over the years.
Thatās goblins. Zombies are a bit higher in the foodchain
Hmm. Iād still place zombies lower. I suppose it depends on how mindless either are.
