Still disappointed that this never materialized during DF’s lifespan. What was the point of that whole quest line that culminated in a ton of drakonid becoming independent adventurers?

Maybe they were waiting the unlock of new classes to dracthyrs. Imagine, they unlock for instance Warrior. Maybe they dont want the Warrior dracthyr to be able to Soar, or use wings at all. So we could have Drakonid Warrior instead. On character creation when you will choose Warrior as dracthyr it could unlock the Drakonid visual
If anything, announcing Dracthyr would be able to access more classes was the deathknell for Drakonid.

Hey, if they add variety do it.
It’s sad because it’s obvious they should’ve done this or simply added a playable dragon race.
Somewhere in development the latter may have been the intent (hence why dracthyr re-use so many assets).
What we should’ve received was a new race that could take the form of any of the existing races for its visage with some dragon elements as accessories. Horns, scales, etc. Racial mount is just turning into your dragon form, and you pick your flight in character creation.
Instead we got Drakonids at home. Rather than use what already exists, they invented something new, did a terrible job with their assets, and called it a day. That they can’t even wear most gear outside of visage is an appalling failure.
Note that Drakonid do not have wings.
But those are awesome images nevertheless. A merger of Dracthyr and Drakonid.
Yeah, I couldn’t get the AI to understand what wingless meant.
Looking at how many options the DF Dragon mounts have in customization options
It makes me think if Dracthyr simply looked more like an upright Highland Drake, at Tauren size

Being realistic, if we didn’t get drakonid during the dragon expansion that heavily featured drakonid… we’re just not going to get them.
