I think at this point in the classic servers life cycle we should be having mega servers, many servers already had dwindling populations, but then Blizzard decided it would be a good idea to release a 30% off transfer sale, thus causing low population servers to lose even more players.
With the transfer limit of gold only being 50k, many players having tons of alts due to joyous journeys, and many of us preparing many inscription toons in preparation for MOP release, it seems like we are either forced to abandon our massive amounts of prep and whatever gold we cannot transfer with us, or play on a server with a dying population. If Blizzard is against mega servers that is fine, but they should at least communicate this to us and potentially open free transfers for lower population realms.
No, mega servers are a terrible idea, always have been
Mega servers work very well for Anniversary and SoD. Just have one per region, faction balanced, per PvP/PvE-type. As an SoD-player, its disheartening to see people scattered in many servers.
No they don’t want anything gold buying it so rampant you can’t farm.
Perhaps after the squeeze all they can from paid transfers.
Should have been done long ago. Also the 50k transfer limit per toon is absurd with the amount of gold we have in Cata classic
Not if your intent is to increase token sales.
Not interested, I like my server just the way it is.
You’re free to visit, or even move, but forced consolidation to benefit people who are “preparing many inscription toons” among other things is just overreach. The average player is just here to play World of Warcraft through raiding once or twice a week, or maybe playing rated PvP.
Fresh MOP pvp better .
Pagle is doing great as is. Always people in Stormwind around the clock
All of which is easier to do with a larger pool of players. Stop trying to justify having dead servers just because you like to farm in peace.
You will change your tone when your server glitches and you can’t go to another.
Both factions have active guilds. I can find everything I want on the AH. There’s never a shortage of people to play arena with at any rating. This isn’t dissimilar from demanding (not asking) people from functional small towns to move to the big city, because… It’s “easier” or something.
Perhaps this doesn’t apply to you. Grobb is in a world of it’s own and being RPPvP it doesn’t mix wtih a PvE or PvP server. I didn’t think Grobb even had an issue with population.
But PvE or PvP servers of 1-2k people have fundamental problems of grouping that can be solved by being merged into another server or offers of free transfer off. The transfers exacerbate the problem, but fundamentally there was a problem to begin with and like your analogy, it’s not a functional small town.
The SoD megaserver (Crusader Strike) had the healthiest economy I’ve ever been on.
It’s silly to have multiple servers these days. They are a relic of the past before individual servers could scale to much larger amounts of people.
They really aren’t lol, they worked well in SOD and are making sure anniversary servers are still thriving. I fail to see how they are a terrible idea
The average player would also like to see people in the open world, actually have world pvp again, and would like to have fast forming pugs instead of waiting over an hour for it to fill. If you wanna stay on a low pop realm instead of a mega server that is fine, but they should still open free transfers for players who don’t want to spend hundreds dollars to move all their hard work to an active server.
No the average player would like the ability to go out and sometimes farm his ore or his herbs instead of having to compete with 70 other people per node. Mega servers are dumb. Anybody who can’t see that I have to ask was your IQ high enough to go to public school.
You still have the ability to farm regardless of a mega server, there is a thing called layering, crazy concept I know. Herbs are even hyper spawning in cata lol, go to Hyjal and fly around the twilight area and you legit don’t go more than 2 seconds without finding a 2-3 cinderbloom spawns. It was the same in Wotlk with adder’s tongue.
And yeah we should surely cater to people who don’t want bigger servers because they want easy access of farming herbs/mining. Which is pretty much the only plus side to a small server. Want to raid? gotta wait for that pug to fill up which can take forever. Want to find a raiding spot in a decent guild? Gotta be a bench player in a guild due to limited spots. Want to buy something off the AH? Its gonna be expensive due to a few people cornering the AH markets. Can’t wait for players like you to complain that DMF card crafts are 1 day cooldowns and are super expensive due to not as many people on the server making them.
I don’t care if they are super expensive That’s what tokens are for, or simply being good at making gold. I’m probably going to do what I do at the beginning of every expansion at the beginning of TBC I was making four to 5K a day for the first month, 7:00 to AK for wrath I was doing about 15k for cata I expect to do fairly well for mop. And you see I wouldn’t make that amount of gold if the market was instantly crashing because 15,000 people want to list the same thing.
Nope I like it just how it is if you want to be on a mega server pay to move to one but don’t try to make the rest of us have to play the game the worst possible way.
“The rest of us” I am pretty sure the vast majority of players don’t want to be on small population realms. But people also don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on transfers. Go look at polls done by popular youtubers and it shows that exact thing im saying lmao
Just to circle back on this, I don’t think the average players main concern playing this game is farming, most people would like a healthy community, and easier access to pugs or guilds.
