You might be disappointed about it, it’s a free to play game, don’t expect to spend $0 for power progression.
The money for power progression will be spent directly or indirectly but be sure that you’ll spend some money.

In my case, I have been saturated of WoW just before WotLK, I came back years later mid-WoD until the very end of Legion and finally couldn’t find the time to play from the beginning to the end of BFA, in fact I came back 1 month ago.
All of this to say, it’s perfectly normal to feel as you do, but the source of it isn’t always 100% the game.

Nope. Lost ark is far more p2w and predatory in that department. for PVE anyway for pvp its not pay to win.
