So why didn’t people just not use the add on? If the add on were to go away what are people just going to stop running mythic’s?

Oh yeah it for sure is the go-to deflection.

but, If you’ve been in this community for any length of time. Would it honestly surprise you if there wasn’t a hint of truth to it ? lol

Didn’t he create it?

Okay sure dude but people still shouldn’t send people death threats or bully them relentlessly at the slightest slip up.

He received the death threats before he announced the paywall. Some have even said the reason for the paywall was because of all the death threats and harassment he received for not updating the addon during race to world first.

Of course i realize that’s how people act on the internet. They too should be jailed and blacklisted from websites. Only through constant surveillance and strict punishments can we turn people into decent creatures.

Doesn’t matter if he created it or not, It is against Blizzards TOS to paywall addons. He is however within his rights to cease working on the addon and remove it from use.

  1. Death Threats and doxxing aren’t cool, to preface. Especially over a video game.
  2. He should have left it at the Doxxing/Death Threats. The rest of it just makes him sound like he’s playing the victim to try to get sympathy, and by association is calling everyone who presented evidence of him doing some seriously wrong things himself liars. Also not cool.
  3. Punishing everyone for the actions of a few is a horrible way to go about anything.
  4. Too late. Most people have moved onto the Dungeon Tools addon and won’t go back, because you can’t trust him to not do it again in the future.

Okay, Stalin.

well you can say that but not really seeing as addons have to have public code on Blizz bans them on sight. So even if he abandoned his addon others could easily take the project and continue.

Hopefully Nnoggie (sp?) can take a breather and get some help - both for mental health and with continuing to develop the addon.

I’m glad this seems sorted out now.

It already is illegal. That’s why the addon is free, but the data is not. It’s literally a loophole that they haven’t bothered closing because it hasn’t become a major issue (yet). Not to mention the addon has a Dev mode that allows you to create your own routes so informed players could create their own routes. People just don’t want to do the work for that.

Pretty sure the reason why Blizzard made addons being unable to cost money from the start was to prevent exploitation of the playerbase and to that extent I agree, but that part of the TOS is pretty ancient and the status of the game and dependency of addons is vastly different from 2004. Authors increasingly wanting to be compensated for their increased time sinking into making and managing addons is a different dynamic than wanting to profit and exploit the playerbase from the get-go.

And your suggestion of just releasing the code and letting someone else pick up the mantle is equivalent to passing the buck to the next poor sap who tries to keep up with it for little to no compensation.

The original claim was that it was “wrong” for him to do this. Do you think that the ToS are a moral arbiter of some kind? Or do you feel entitled to receive his hard work for free? Or some other option I am missing?

Stalin?? No my name is Karzabzak, or Kar. Who is Stalin?

Wow & now I’m embarrassed to even be part of this community. It just shows how much bad parenting there is when adults act like spoiled children .

No offense but unless that community contributed to the development of the addon in a meaningful way folks need to just get over it. Death threats over this? Seriously?

If certain addons are really that important a community organization needs to be formed to help fund the sustainment of them; WoW addon’s still take some level of programming talent to build correctly and have them be useful and really anyone working on these addons is likely has the chops to build something else that will feed their families.

It is never acceptable to tolerate death threats; personally if it were my project, I would of just up and scrapped it and called it a day after that nonsense.

That’s how passion works though, it goes away, and someone else still has it. Someone else is always eager to take the reins and show what they can add to a love project. That’s all it is though, once you add a paywall to it, it becomes scammy and scummy. Nobody cares about it at that point. Time to update the ToS I guess. This loophole shouldn’t exist for this addon.

They’re not a poor sap though, people love doing stuff like this. It gives them renown and fame in the community and they do get donations for it. If someone wants more than that out of something like this, then it’s time to move on with their life.

@Karzabzak he says that he did, but who knows what is true. Stories are just stories. When a greedy manipulative person plays the victim card I don’t really care much.

Someone who believes strict enforcement and control of humans can lead to better humans in the future.

Totalitarianism yay

The problem with people is that they are way too entitled these days. A guy developed an addon, then decided close it and - how dare he? - make some money for his job made. And people are losing their manure. Seriously. If you not paying for this addon, author owes you zero. But a lot of messages were “how dare this [censored] do that?!”

People need to start support developers and content makers, especially in these harsh day we have now. Like some podcast? Chip in 2-3 bucks. If there are 100 ppl like you, author might meet end needs. Is there an addon you can’t live without? Paypal author 5-10 bucks once or 1-2 bucks monthly. People love to compare support of authors with cup of coffee and it’s fair comparison. You are not going to die if you will drink 1 cup of coffee less and instead say thank you to developers.

tl;dr: Author owns you nothing, be grateful.

You can’t call making a WoW addon a job. You just can’t.
