Maybe Time to Settle Down, Tanks

I get it. Your class is always in demand. But the sense of self importance I’ve seen from some of you is astonishing.

Two tanks left two different pug groups tonight. The first because we had the audacity to roll for a mithril deposit. He literally said “always let the tank get the nodes” and hearthed out.

The second one left in a different dungeon because a mage asked him to pull more mobs. That was just too much for him so he turned around and walked out of the dungeon.

Both times we found a replacement in less than 10 minutes. There are still literally thousands of you. Let’s maybe settle down a bit. It’s getting kind of cringey.

ive left runs because someone ninjas a BOE …
generally thats the only thing that gets me while tanking. even moreso if they try to justify it .

People in chat are literally saying they’ll give tanks gold for tanking.

Tanks do have tools for being as entitled as they please

Many tanks have had this weird feeling of importance for as long as I can remember. There are some amazing tanks who should be held on a higher tier but most are just the run of the mill guys wanting faster groups. Nobody in the game is important and anyone can be replaced with a quickness.

Maybe late game I can understand? For RFD? Nah…

if u see a node you should at least let everyone tap it without looting for a skill up

That’s pretty much how its done in every pug ive been in. Then people either alternate nodes or alternate turns on the same node till it vanishes

By the same coin, As a tank I’ve been in some amazingly stupid groups that have had me explaining rules I have on a regular basis; things like let me pull, what quests do we have, what profs do people have, Don’t AOE until you’re sure I have Aggro, If you get aggro don’t run away run to me, We can pull bigger when I’m confident we can handle it, if you fear either you get kicked or I hearth the hell out.

You’d think this would be obvious stuff, but I still have crap like healers chain pulling with shadow word pain or mages spamming blizzard as soon as I target a mob.

So while I can appreciate that some tanks are pretentious tag nuts, be aware that a lot of them have had to trudge through truly horrid groups on a regular basis by pugging.

Every group does it differently. I just go with what they want. They rolled, so I rolled. Even the tank rolled. The guy who won then started mining it and that’s when the tank just suddenly lost it.

Some tanks on Mankrik are charging for their services.
Feels bad.

This is when your list goes from completely reasonable to cringey.

I got bored of it quick. Started running instances without tanks and it’ll be pretty effective until level 60.

At level 60, raids will need not more than 2-4 (5-10%) of them (maybe a 5th offtank for domo)…meanwhile there will be 6-12 (15-30%) healers and 30+ DPS (75%).

These ratios will immediately make tanks fight for spots rather than sit there at the top, reserving loot and treating everyone else like crap because 5 man dungeons need 20% tanks, 20% healers and 60% DPS.

Fear in a dungeon is death 98% of the time. It is an incredibly stupid thing to do since it sends a mob careening off into who the hell knows where and more often then not brings more trash stomping in that will probably wipe the party.

It’s a PVP power or for fighting trash mobs out in the world you absolutely know aren’t social to each other.

And considering my repair bill > yours I for damn sure am not dealing with that when anyone other then a healer is super easy to replace.

I get why you don’t like people fearing. It’s your reaction that gets me. “Either he gets kicked or I leave.” Like you can’t be older than 14 if that’s really how you react.

I can see tanks being elitist. There is such a crazy shortage of tanks at level 60. Healers, np, there’s enough healers. Tanks, no way

LFG chat channel is usually multiple groups trying to run the same high level dungeon asking for tanks at the same time. Like at that point I just give up and log off…

There are many times where fear is completely fine to use. It’s not as low as 2%. You can even combo it with a druid to fear/root things and it overlaps well.

I have never had to fight for a raid spot as a tank. its pretty much a golden ticket.

Never said it was difficult, but it’s nowhere near the point where tanks are reserving loot for themselves or instantly leaving whenever it’s not carryville.

I really don’t have time for that kind of crap and by the time you are some place like BFD this is the kind of thing you should know because you’ve been using your kit for dozens of hours by that point in world content and seen what happens.

It’s up there with ninja looters in terms of things that infuriate me.

That can work if both parties know what’s up and that usually involves dischord, something you don’t usually get in a pug with a bunch of randos.

Again I get it. But even if you’re angry at someone for being stupid (we’ve all been there), don’t you think telling the group to turn on that guy and kick him out or you’re gonna leave is a bit much? I mean do you even give him a chance and say “hey don’t do that cause this happens” or is just a straight 0 to 60 reaction?
