I do a fair bit of helping players as a Guide on Newcomer Chat. As a game systems I think its a great one as lets more experienced players help people new to the game.
But recently there has been a disruption on the chat where someone (I think it probably is a single person but hard to tell) is creating a new character and spamming a single capslocked offensive sentence. This doesnt just happen now and then, it can be a rolling spam happening over a long period of time.
Yes, obviously I report it as do many of the other people and the Guides, but I can come back on, and they are just doing it on a new character. Obviously its disruptive and it makes many newer players quite uncomfortable.
I guess I really hope that this receives a slightly higher level of attention as it must impact on new players, who cannot turn off Newcomer Chat until they hit a certain level. It just seems to be a very malicious, disturbing activity.

This has been reported in the past on the forums, the advice remains to report them.
They likely get squelched and then get on a new toon, but eventually the GM’s will get to the pile and take action.

That is unfortunate but I believe reporting the individual through the normal channels is about all you can do.
You’ve been around a long time so I don’t need to tell you this but in case others see it, I would highly encourage completely ignoring this individual and not responding to them in any way as they are there for attention and if they don’t get any they’ll probably lose interest (we hope).

Annoying yes, however all you can do is report and move along.
As you’re aware if you say anything about getting others to report also could get you in trouble.
Blizzard will get to the person of concern eventually and he/she will get the appropriate response of getting a banned account and then we’ll have them coming to forums saying they where banned for nothing and a blue will come along and say NOPE. Until the next person comes along and thinks it’s smart to do the same.

I do want to thank you for reporting these individuals, as well as helping new players. It’s people like you who help foster an inclusive and welcoming environment.
Thank you, Kneeshooter!

Yes, as I said, I report and ignore. Its a temporary bandaid solution and I hoped raising it here might get it passed along to whichever team it is that acts on reports. Likely to help? Possibly not but at this point Im almost at the stage of just turning off Newcomer chat on my Guide characters because Im sick of it cropping up in my own chat.

Keep reporting for spam. They will get taken care of in short order and if they keep doing so on new accounts then they will also end up loosing their bnet as well.

Reporting is how it gets passed to the team that acts on reports.

Considering how many come here complaining about how they got suspended or banned for abusive chat reporting works!

I went searching because I want to say there was a Twitter reply (I think?) re: this being a known bot group. This group has used bots to do the profanity post in MG Trade Chat fairly recently as well (I have reported 'em a number of times). They have been doing this for years apparently. And there is no easy way to stop large bot groups with lots of disposable accounts.
But I couldn’t find anything…because Twitter is useless…
The solution above is correct. If this is a bot group, and that seems likely from what I have seen, though I cannot find that link now, then it is a far more difficult problem to solve. Keep reporting it!
