Math Lesson

Topic: If A=B and B=C then A=C

We all know this basic rule of math. We all know it feels bad to be stuck on a losing streak. I have a proposal based on this simple math rule.

Assumption: A normal BG win awards 15 conquest points. An epic BG win awards 25. Lets say the average is 20.

Along with that win, you also get a chest, “Victorious Contender’s Strongbox”. This chest can be purchased for 5000 honor from Honor Quartermaster Seltherex.

If Win = Chest and Chest = 5000 Honor then Win = 5000 Honor
Take this one step further
5000 Honor = Win and Win = 20 Conquest Points then 5000 Honor = 20 Conquest Points.

So, if I can get the chest, which comes from a win, for 5000 honor, then I should be able to get 20 conquest points, which come from a win, for 5000 honor.

Note: My original thought was to be able to acquire 1 piece of conquest gear with 15,000 honor. The above solution is more inline with what’s already available.

This premise is wrong.

By chest, I mean strongbox. It’s available from the honor vendor for 5000 honor.

Feel free to verify the fact before assuming I’m wrong.

Are you able to exchange the strongbox for 5,000 honor, or only the other way around?

If not, then the strongbox is NOT intrinsically worth 5,000 honor.

A=B implies B=A, but if it’s a 1-way transaction, then they’re not equal.

Then you have entirely missed my point.

Honor is a lesser currency than conquest.

There is no conversion rate since the 2 are unequal.

Honor is an unlimited currency while conquest is capped. The two don’t even buy the same things.

The honor strongbox is simply something to spend excess honor on since once you have gear honor is useless.

and we have another one who totally missed the point.

I don’t think there is an issue with you arguing that honor should be able to buy conquest gear (although, I disagree which I’ll explain later) but the analogy isn’t necessarily good.

A box is not equivalent to 5000 honor since the box can’t be exchanged for honor. Equivalence would require the exchange to be biconditional.

I don’t think it’s a good idea for honor to be accumulated to buy conquest gear because it could lead to honor buddy style bots to flood BGs to accumulate conquest gear. One could argue that we aren’t seeing a lot of bots because Blizzard has a handle on them or it could be argued that we aren’t seeing a lot of bots in BGs because the incentive isn’t there to use them.

I can buy a plane ticket to France for $1,000.

I can buy a plane ticket to France for 100,000 frequent flyer miles.

Therefore I should be able to exchange 100,000 frequent flyer miles for $1,000 directly.

We can do this example ad infinitum with separate unequal currencies.

You don’t seem to have one.

Good analogy. I’m going to go clip some coupons and take them all to the grocery store and demand that they give me their value in money directly.

Oh no, don’t get me wrong, I COMPLETELY understand your point.

I just think your point is dumb.

Hey guys, there’s this strongbox you can purchase for 5000 honor. It’s the same strongbox you get for winning a BG.

You also get 25 conquest points for winning. It would be nice if I could exchange 5000 honor points for 25 conquest points.

Better?
