Massive stutters with DF client

Stuttering is worse today, might be more people playing.

The invasions are literally unplayable… is this what blizzard thinks is acceptable nowadays? Honestly sad how fall they’ve fallen recently, no updates on a fix for weeks now but they are still pumping out store mounts and half @ssed patches like there is nothing going on.

I was even getting some noticeable FPS drops in the new dungeon… Which is absolutely absurd considering there’s barely anything going on most of the time. Someone needs to teach the new interns how to optimize or something because this is unacceptable at this point imo.

We need a blue to really chime in on whats going on because this is BS we pay monthly to play this crap on top of paying for overpriced expansions and now it runs like crap on a $3000 computer. Absolute insanity at this point… I really want to enjoy DF but I still have yet to preorder it because of what’s been going on and I’m not sure if I will even buy it at this point.

Sorry for the rant just tired of this crap and not getting any updates about it is really starting to bug me. They clearly don’t give a crap about it look at how many posts are in this thread and like 2 blue responses…

I literally went down to 20 fps on a high-end rig at invasions, maxed out in 1440p (ray tracing off). Also seems there’s a memory leak as my system is using like 12gb.

Issue is fixed with the console command.

what’s the command

The clock is ticking Bliz! Your game is broken and an expansion launches in like a week lol…

No, no it isn’t. The console command was applied by Blizz in a patch 2 weeks ago and has not resolved the issue, it just lessens the effects of the stuttering.

I don’t actually get any graphical issues now but my card goes berserk periodically and the fan sounds like a helicopter is trying to take off in my PC, then settles down to almost idle again. Been like that since the “fix”

Yeah, I agree, my addons are off and I’m still having problems. Marginally better than before in some instances, but the prepatch zones are a total no-go. My game stutters to death and then freezes. I understand there’s gonna be some issues when there’s 10,000,000 people in one place, of course, but totally unplayable?

@blizzard

Blue post please

Personally, I’d love to see that dissection because I really wanna know what the heck got broken and what settings I could try to fix it. I’m not computer savvy at all, but I am curious how any of this works, because most of my friends can play just fine but a few other people I know are having similar issues to me…

Disabling some things like VPNs and unoptimized AVs doesn’t always stop parts of them from still running. They typically have all kinds of ring-0 to 1 hooks in the operating system and run at the kernal and driver levels. Turning an AV off just stops it from actively doing some specific task, but parts of it will still be running in the OS. Those parts can then clash with other things in a system or game like for instance: Warden anti-cheat.

Basically, it sounds like you have an atypical OS environment on your PC, along with some of the others in this thread. Blizzard may or may not try to work around whatever common variables you all share. If they decide not to, they will just forward you to a support article that directs you to disable/uninstall certain things, if you wish to continue playing the game.

Forgive me, I only kinda know what “OS environment” could mean, but are you saying there’s something wrong with, say, my Windows installation? Would that really affect so many people? No snark, genuinely curious if I can take my laptop to my IT guy at work and have him switch something up to make the game run better.

That said, I also have zero problems in any other game besides WoW, and this wasn’t a problem before the patch that changed all the systems around, so…

Talking about the OS itself, custom tweaks and changes made, things added/disabled, programs running, registry changes, driver versions, OS builds+updates, etc etc.

Every game is different. It could turn out to be as simple as they made some change to the anticheat engine and that it’s clashing with your system. This has happened with a lot of anticheat engines and DRMs in the past.

Interesting! Thank you.

As with pretty much everyone in this thread. Thus logical conclusion is the problem is with WOW itself…thats how deductive logic works.

Pawgwalker just wants to waste your time and blame anything, anybody, any computer, any driver update, basically everything under the sun besides blizzard…Beware…

Lol I mean, it seems like there’s two options here, either Blizzard broke something or all of us have a setting on somewhere in our computers that doesn’t agree with whatever blizzard did. But either way, with the information people have provided, the tech support people should be able to answer with either “oops we broke something” in a few days or “you should switch these three things on and these two things off.” It’s clearly not a blanket error that everyone’s experiencing, but it’s something a LOT of people are getting. Either way, something in the game isn’t working with multiple people and it’s probably not a “just buy a new computer 4head” kind of fix.

It’s very frustrating nonetheless, and I’d appreciate a “hey we’re still looking into this” post even if they don’t have an answer yet.

Well I wouldn’t know, since Battle.net won’t load for me, but gaming spouse reports Battle.net has a notification “we are aware of an issue that is affecting our download servers which may result in slow or failed download attempts” followed by “we’re working on it” type language.

WEIRD.

EDIT: Also some news here (thanks Bahari!) https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/wow/en/wow/t/update-stuck-on-initializing/1404149/37

Wish this was helpful because I haven’t had an issue with my downloads at all KNOCK ON WOOD but it’s just the “stuttering/freezing when there’s multiple people in an area/spells flying/whenever I try to turn” thing. I can’t do the prepatch event at all :expressionless:

I know, it sucks. Hoping they’ll start digging out of the hole and you get your issues resolved as quickly as I got killed in the Maldraxxus Arena back in the old pre-DF patch days. Seems like forever ago.

If it’s something like a Warden anticheat compatibility issue, then it’s probably here to stay. What do botters use? Atypical OS environments and softwares… Pretty sure 99% of players would much rather deal with with less botters vs fixing the problem for a small percentage of players that aren’t botters, but use similar tinfoil hat softwares and OS tweaks that botters might use.

But this is in reference to people still having stuttering issues. As for the issues with draw distances on detail meshes/foliage, that’s a different story and there has been some kind of change under the hood, but it appears to mostly be isolated to SL zones. I didn’t notice any real issues on beta with popins and from what I’ve seen of older zones, like BfA and Legion, I didn’t really see any issues there either.
