correct. But I am not going to play this version of hunter. The class will be effectively no longer enjoyable… and to be honest, given how many other pain points they keep injecting into this game, this could very well be the end of my time here.

Because its bad business to release one playstyle thats super far ahead of the other which also affects no pet MM

Now we just need the warrior dev to understand this and make Single Minded Fury baseline instead of a DPS loss you have to spec into.

no, no, its similar, but tis fundamentally different. While i agree removing the option is dumb there are things to consider:

Mage fantasy is not tied to summoning elementals, hunter fantasy is about not just summoning animals, but taming then, there is a whole different aspect of finding different options, with different abilities and getting then to be yours

They are unable to to make both types of play comparable because of the vast difference in how they do damage especially in AOE because the pet can only attack one single target versus LW does increased damage to all targets

Why would they bother? The pet option has never been a top level talent and no one cares. It’s a role play option. Why do you have to balance a role play option?

Because players cry when it does more damage. Which is why it got nerfed in the first place.

MM is not losing a pet, it is gaining a mandatory, non-customizable pet.

I don’t play Hunter but this strikes me as somehow even worse than removing it outright.

It is… it actually is… personally I wouldn’t mind the change if we could customize it to be one of our tamed pets…

Those people are very happy. The people who WERE playing the spec are not. (They did this with arcane too, my former favorite spec, and it makes me angry)

Funny, I never thought of a pet as a crutch.

Frankly, I don’t give a flying feather for your significant dps output. I care for the class I have been playing since 2009 and my love of its connection to the many creatures they tame and keep as companions.

For those who want to see a class wrecked in order to squeeze that extra bit of dps out of it, that’s fine, I’m glad you are happy. I am not and for me it means that BM is the only spec I will play on my second oldest character from now on.

There is clearly a direction the team working on MM has in mind, and the plan is to focus on making MM that sniper esque play style

The characterization of MM as a “sniper” really frosts me. A sniper is a one and done. A Sniper fantasy would mean Aimed Shot should deal 100% damage to the target 90% of the time based on some setup criteria.

The better analogy would be to think of MM as a mage that does physical damage and has somewhat better armor. Making it a mage like class should at least make the development and balancing task easier going forward. Part of that class/spec homogenization thing.

The more interesting factoid to drop out of all of the back and forth about MM losing a pet is the insistence that losing the pet is required to fix encounter problems. Bosses evidently bug out on phase changes and incorrectly target pets…

Which implies that if pets really are a problem, a problem that can’t be fixed by the development team, then the long term dev focus is going to be to remove all pets from all specs. Guess we’ll see in the next few expansions if Unholy loses the ghoul and Shaman lose the elementals. Something to look forward to seeing!

Would be nice if I still got to keep my pet cosmetically, good changes or not, I like the traveling company. And before anyone tells me to go BM for that, I prefer the abilities MM has. Plus they fit me better than BM’s abilities; I’m also an RPer, big shock after what I just said I’m sure.

I expect few to understand where I’m coming from, but will be pleasantly surprised otherwise.

Either way, I’m not complaining. But I will make the most of my time with my alpaca that I can now! And my hyena. Aaand the giraffe… but mostly my alpaca!
