Marksman hunters use pets in the lore

Yes, another one of these posts, but none of them have focused on the fact that lorewise there are several famous Marksman hunters who use pets.

The two most well known ones are the Forsaken (Blood Elf) Dark Rangers, and the Night Elf Sentinels. Both of which are accessible as Hero talents for Marksman.

Tyrande is a hybrid of a Marksman hunter and a priest of Elune. She uses her trusty Sentinel Owl to guide her arrows and often fights with him, as seen in the Cinematics.

Other Sentinels in her army can often be seen fighting along side owls or tigers.

As far as Dark Rangers, while most Dark Rangers do not use animals, the 2nd most famous Dark Ranger behind Sylvanas is infamously known for using hounds along side him, and that would be Nathanos Blightcaller, who is officially categorized as a Marksman hunter.

I don’t believe it’s fair to remove pets when this has existed in the lore for 20+ years and people have grown attached to and fond of their pets.

Your pets aren’t going anywhere. You can still use them if you spec BM or Surv.

Marksmans use pets in the lore. Your pets are going away…you cannot use them unless you switch specs.

You get an Eagle.

You know what they don’t get?

That’s not an owl.

And no one gets to be a…

…in game either. You’ll live.

My only question is; will MM have any improved CC to compensate for the lack of a Pet?

The strange part is, Dark Ranger MM hunters get a hound proc and Sentinel hunters get a Sentinel Owl.

Those aren’t going away and as stated, MM hunters have them both.

Stop it. It is not the same. Sv is a melee spec and bm is an animal centric spet. MM is the ONLY ranged physical attack with a pet.

Uh…the vast majority of BM’s damage is physical. Ever since the change to make pets charge to their target with basically every attack that matters, their pets basically function as a DoT with a body anyway.

“Noooo stop asking for what I don’t like!”

Christ these threads are just painful to read at this point.

I couldn’t care less whether MM keeps their Call Pet ability or not. But the OP is trying to use a lore argument for it while explicitly including something lore-related that has no gameplay analogue in their own post.

the lore is not the game, and vice versa. i get being upset by this change but “the lore” is a poor argument.

My only issue with the new MM is how it would Solo very high difficulty Delves like Delves 11 or Solo a very Powerful Rare without a Pet as Tank/Decoy. Switching to BM is a No-no as they have different play style and stats.

On Dungeons/Raid, I am okay with the new MM.

If you really want to deepdive the lore. Og hunters were the elven rangers from warcraft.

No pets.

Tbh I really don’t see the problem with creating a spec where the hunter is alone.
But we aren’t getting that either lol.

Thing is, there are in-game analogues to those lore things.

Sentinel’s capstone summons the Tyrande Owl to do stuff.
Dark Ranger summons Nathanos Shadow Hounds with Black Arrow.

Bonus points: Sentinel’s owl does more than Tyrande’s owl who only existed to sit on trees and scout. I don’t recall Tyrande ever grabbing her owl, then throwing it at land-creature to tank for her so wanting a pet specifically for that doesn’t fit either.
