since you didn’t address what i said at all, here. read again.
its simply not fun to not be able to play the game because some game mechanic requires you to afk for 20 seconds.
the entire conversation should end here, but because people are so blinded by rose tinted glasses, they will defend an old, badly designed developer choice.
100% agree with OP. Mages and casters get no damage benefit from a full mana pool compared to “infinite” resource classes. You can’t aoe for more than 2 trash packs before having to drink for 30 seconds while other said classes keep on going doing more damage than you anyway.
Bringing casters slows down a raid with no dps benefit for when they actually have mana.
There really isn’t a balance reason that casters need to spend that much time refilling their mana bar. If they need to manage resources to not go oom on a trash pack or boss, fine, but don’t make them drink for 30 seconds out of combat.
I am one of the only mages pushing top speed clears of BFD and i will say i am bending myself over backwards to keep up mana through pots /recombob spam from raid/drink walking/ spirit buff/mp5 food / working the 2 and 5 second ticks and i am able to do decent damage and even parse well enough.
Im not sure how they can fix the mana issue but i sure would like if they tried something
Buff the mana oil, add regen to world buff, introduce water that is 2x better than you can buy from vendor that only works in BFD. that took me 3 seconds to think of something that doesn’t imbalance the rest of the game.
I think it would be nice if in raid/dungeons drink speed was 3x faster. This way it won’t affect BGs or World PVP but would make us less detrimental to our team in pve content.
resources exist for a reason, so that you have to manage them. If you want to give mages all this EXTRA mana regen stuff, then please give feral druid tanks the same with rage. I bet you I’m more rage starved than you are mana starved.
Also, mages aren’t even the only casters affected by this… Yet they have more tools than the other casters to regen their mana. Lets give shadow priests evocate too while you’re at it
Just curious, bc you said mana is fine and you know bc you play shadow, yet 0 logs playing shadow, 1 from 3 days ago playing as healer. So maybe your opinion is worthless.
This is still the dumbest response. The only way for casters to “manage mana” is to stop casting. How about they make it so rogues only regen energy when they havent attacked anyone for 5 seconds. Call it “managing energy”.
Ever played a rogue and needed to kick on a boss fight? You need to do exactly what you just said… You have to hold your globals and or pool your energy to make sure you can kick
You don’t understand the complaint. Even “rage starved” warriors do more damage than full mana bar mages. The biggest issue is the downtime to refill mana bar. That’s not managing “resources” that’s tedious. Caster damage would have to be boosted by 200% or more for that tradeoff to be worth it.
Managing resources on an encounter or trash pack is fine. It’s the downtime that needs to go, especially in pve. I can sort of understand making mana more limited in pvp for balance reasons there. There isn’t a balance reason for making casters drink for 20+ seconds after a couple of pulls.
and if it you are conservative with mana so you don’t drink that often, your dps is awful rather than mediocre.
Mages have to cancel cast to counterspell or decurse. That’s a stupid argument. That’s a rogue utility and damage is sacrificed for utility. Other classes sacrifice damage for utility too. Rogues are the best kickers, or one of the best, so they are often in that role, but they aren’t especially hurt by this when looking across all boss encounters.
Classic cultists are making a lot of lame excuses in this thread, but level 25 or “that’s vanilla lawl” are terrible comments with no value given that runes fix mana for some builds and not others.
Priests can heal a dungeon with 80+% mana the entire time without ever drinking if they mostly only cast PoM and Penance.
Shaman have DW rockbiter rage for 1k mana every minute (though it’s annoying that this is the only real option)
Balance druids have cheap and free cast options (though they should probably reduce the mana cost of sunfire and maybe make it cleave only when cast in caster or something)
Only some builds have to deal with vanilla era mana issues.
Some stuff they could do:
reduce mage rune mana costs and buff arcane surge massively (it should be 100% max mana restored not barely any)
reduce the mana cost of lifebloom and/or give lifebloom healing a chance to proc clearcasting
make strength of soul reduce the mana cost of PW:S (really weak rune compared to PoM/Pen)
make serendipity reduce the mana cost of flash heal significantly and reduce the mana cost of the other spells with stacks (currently a complete joke of a rune compared to the others)
make overload reduce the mana cost of the spells it effects or restore some mana on proc
remove the mana cost from things like lava burst and lava lash or even have them restore mana
Make arcane concentration work on healing casts so you can free cast a heal with it
make living seed add 10% crit chance to HoT ticks which will increase the mana efficiency of all HoTs
add whatever other mana cost reduction or restoration via runes would be needed for other specs like first/frost/shadow etc
Lots of stuff you can do via runes even if they don’t want to change base spells to bring everything up to par with PoM and Penance.
The effect is exactly the same…a loss of dps. making sure you have enough energy to kick means one/two less saber slash. Which is 350-700 less damage, every single kick. In fact the loss of damage is probably more for rogues than a mage.
