Who knows. I don’t really stand still anywhere. I’ll have the random person that helps kill mobs here and there. We wave at each other. I usually leave it at that.
I’ll be honest. I’ve yet to run into toxic communication. Except in the pvp area but I think those people are just messing around. Idk. I get super annoyed when players start boss fights when I’m still in a cut scene though. It’s really rude and it pisses me off pretty badly. Happened the other day. I sat in the cut scene for like 5 seconds instead of skipping it right away. They are already fighting the boss. I’m the tank so I turn tank stance off and they complain I’m not taunting. Lol, well, you wanted to tank it friend.
Maybe it’s just me, but 95% of the social interactions in these kinds of games come from your guild or free company. I can’t remember the last time I made a random friend in the open world. Leveling is too solo friendly for that to really happen.
Not sure if FFXIV has group quests… Not in main scenario, anyways. But, I never did any of the side quests. Not any use in doing so when there’s more efficient ways to level.
Man, starting to realize I did not like leveling in FFXIV. Sure, WoW has a lot of “collect bear butts” and “kill 10 wolves”, but at least that gives me a chance to play the class. Unlike, FFXIV where you spend most of the time going from one city to the other just to talk to someone or get a cutscene.
i don’t see what’s wrong with people who only play 1 mmo, a lot don’t have the time/energy/desire to play multiple mmo’s at once, they are very time consuming. and toxic people exist in trade chat, pvp, and dungeon groups
Yup, MMO’s are really time consuming and I can bet many people just commit to one. There is nothing wrong with that, and despite what crunchy thinks, there is definitely a difference in one group over another in terms of behavior and attitude to one another.
WoW has been for me, a cesspool. For every 1 nice person I met, I ran into 50 people being toxic for some petty reason.
I don’t think it’s you OP.
I had the exact same experience when I started up in FFXIV awhile ago.
The people that FFXIV attracts and the community it’s built with the playerbase is just vastly different from WoW’s. It’s a much more fun, friendly, and just an overall better social experience over there.
you know im actually trying to think when i actually had friends and an active guild in this game, like it has to be back around cata or legion or something…its been so long…and ive only ever seen auto invite guilds with tons of people and zero activity.
The guild on my character shown in the forums, that guild auto invited me probably SL launch day, i havent logged into retail, barring 15min a few days ago, since then, im still in the guild. I look back on some characters i havent played in nearly a decade, some of them are still in whatever dead guild auto invited me back then.
I actually cant remember getting a real guild via convo in this game…
I think this games community has been somewhat dead for a very long time, despite having lots of players. I dont think there is any active mmorpg like that.
All of this isnt true for classic or TBC classic, no issues there oddly.
I don’t want friends, if I want to talk to people I go on discord or I go to the forums/reddit/mmo-champ but I can’t help but to be Kaurmine If I’m in your group it’s going to be jokes and a good time all around People tend to like me which doesn’t work out so well for my “don’t want friends” mindset. But not a week goes by where I don’t get a random friend request from someone I grouped with and I just click that decline button
I feel pretty comfortable in my wow server’s trade chat and other chats on the server too. Its definitely the most welcoming place. In retail and classic, ive had people be helpful, answer questions, be polite and kind.
With FF, I never felt welcome, no one reached out to help me as a new player, most of my “i hope everyone is having a good day!” in their version of trade chat always met with silence ot “F you!”
For me, wow is so much more welcoming and friendly and that makes a huge difference to me.
There are many factors that you are not taking into consideration.
FFXIV players enjoyed a glorious expansion and are waiting “Happy” for the one that will be released in a few months. Besides that FFXIV does not divide horde / alliance factions, most of the people meet in LIMSA.
It is more feasible that you find people happy and ready to be SOCIAL
WoW-retail its players are furious, disappointed, not even wanting to play. In that state of mind, it is very difficult for them to want to socialize. I recommend you go to RP servers.
In TBC-CLASSIC people are rushing for lv 70, farming honor and trying to get past the heroic / raid dungeons. I highly doubt that they want to socialize. The same will happen to FFXIV when the next expansion comes out at least 1-2 months everyone will be “Rushing” and in the race to complete the expansion
