Make Soar Great Again

Best option would be to just remove upwards launch, have the ground be a hover, light flap, which would give the ground speed option instead of just walking speed, and then to upward launch would cost 1 vigor. It would bring it even with mounts.

I think its actually better than regular dragonriding right now

How do you figure? Objectively it functions the same when you get in the air, but then when you land you have a cooldown before you can reuse it. Also, because it ends when you land, you do not get any benefit from the dragonriding herbing talents, and you can’t use Bronze Timelock.

It’s absolutely good enough for me as I’m just thrilled I will be able to stay in the air, but it’s still not 1 to 1 the functionality of using a dragonriding mount.

Edit: I know we get that whole “free” point of vigor, but since I can’t remember the last time I ever ran out of vigor, I would say that the actual mounts ability to gather and use all the dragonriding skills is more useful than a free Ascent.

Well I forgot about gathering professions, but bronze timelock is basically useless, and if you’re not running out of vigor you’re not spamming surge forward enough to get places faster. So it’s actually better unless you’re gathering specifically in the dragon isles.
:dracthyr_shrug:

Cept that you still can’t land and take off right away like you would a normal mount. You also don’t need to spam Surge to keep up speed. Especially if you use the trick with Ascent where you flick your screen up before you use it.

New Soar is wonderful, and I look forward to it. It’s still slightly worse than just a dragonriding mount, though. I will use new Soar for flying around, but still use a normal dragonriding mount for gathering, for instance.

Bronze Timelock is a wonderful skill for gathering, too. I actually use it all the time.

Edit: Not to mention that a normal mount can start flight by just gliding off a cliff, which is also something Soar can’t do.

If you want to keep moving at 1300% speed or higher, you need to be constantly spending vigor.

Fair enough I suppose. I am happy enough to just keep the blue buff up. Just doing that, I never run out of vigor while travelling. Especially after I golded all those stupid challenge races and learned that Ascent trick.

I basically gave up gathering anything that isn’t titan-touched, and I like zooming around nowadays, so I’m constantly out of vigor

Okay, but if you are going fast enough to keep Thrill, you should be constantly regaining vigor. I can do laps around the island with Thrill and still have more vigor than I know what to do with.

I also use my dragonriding mounts to gather with my double gatherer, and generally have no vigor problems unless I am not paying attention. Heh, and I pick up everything I see when I go out gathering, so I am constantly up and down and starting again.

Obviously not going at full speed while harvesting, but while travelling I know I am at least fast enough to never lose Thrill of the Skies, and I usually end up with more vigor than I can spend. No idea what my actual speed is, though. I don’t have addons or anything related to that. I just go with “have blue buff” and “don’t have blue buff.”

My point through all this though is that as functionally nice as the new Soar is, it is still more limited than a normal dragonriding mount. I am fine with that since it still lets me stay in the air indefinitely, but I do wish it had no cooldown/ground form of it as well. I can live with it not having because it is a million times better than we have now, but I would have loved to be able to use my Dracthyr for all the things I could do while dragonriding.

I spend it faster than thrill generates it, all in the name of going fast

oh i meant more bring it to mount level, the ground hover = mount sinting on ground but keeps soar active doesnt cancel, and if talented to gather while mounted able to do that since tech your wings is whats doing hovering you have free action with arms etc. thats all i meant to make it more in line with mount.

Well, thanks to this thread, I’ll be a narcissist here, I’m the reason that Soar got its remake. It’s just not to where it needs to be.

I agree with Mawhache, thats basically what I was proposing in other threads.

Hover needs to be an out-of-combat ground mount that works together with Soar when in the outside world so we dont dismount for every single thing.
