You can perform well. You might not top the charts, but you can still kill the boss.
If you want optimization, you need to spec for it.
If you want optimization at EVERYTHING, you need to pay for constant respecs.
That is how WoW vanilla/TBC classic is balanced.
If you don’t like it, wait for ez mode arcade game wrath classic.

Do you pvp in your pve spec? In my experience, the vast majority of people in arenas are specced into their best pvp talents and playing a pve spec is a major disadvantage.

Good luck trying to “perform well” in pvp as a combat rogue without shadow step.

Well those people must be paying to respec. So why can’t you?
If you want to compete with the best of the best, paying 50g for a respec should be the least of your worries.
