Make Racials swappable via in-game gold purchase, Race's purely cosmetic

Much like unlearning and swapping talents and purchasing Dual-Specialization, Blizzard should allow players to have the ability to swap (or unlearn and then pick a different racial) their Racial abilities in the spellbook by paying a flat amount of gold. This can effectively eliminate the competitive edge certain races have (looking at you Humans + All horde) and allow players to compete on an equal playing field in PvP and PvE scenarios. Additionally, this adds a flat gold sink which should help the economy by curbing gold inflation a bit.

For example, I think it would be really cool if I could be a dwarf rogue and have the orc racial since that allows for me to have my character exactly how I want it, and still be able to compete with top parsing Orc and Troll rogues while remaining on Alliance with my friends.

Alternatively, Blizzard could even make this a paid service where you have to pay $5 or something to do this if they insist on making up some lost money since this new service would eliminate a lot of the demand for the paid race transfer.

Would love to hear some opinions on this!

I’ve been saying this since forever. Any time I bring up mutability and ease of access to flexible characters for pvp, someone brings up racials, and I say they should just be disconnected from races and given to players as a character building option.

Also remove race locking from classes. Even from a lore perspective, theres ways to fluff anything, and theres always exceptions to be made.

Maybe suggest this in the retail forums.

Gross, no. Even retail isn’t that bad.

Retail :arrow_right:

And it’s even dumb for retail

Why is this a retail suggestion?

We’re not the exceptions though.

Honestly, the “homogenize everything” argument is gross.

Because retail players are more cool about wrecking the game with dumb suggestions.

This is an MMORPG. Tell me what the RPG part of a shadowmelding Tauren because he paid gold to some vendor?

Barking up the wrong tree. They need to sell race change, not skill change. Whole point of different races is for them to have different/unique skills. We did not however have to be permanently locked in to the same race across 3 games.

Have you ever seen a Tauren stalk a python? Of course you haven’t, that’s because Tauren are so adept at blending in with their surroundings.

They already announced this and in a recent Q&A said they were having more difficulty adding it than faction change. The general assumption right now is that faction change is coming with ulduar with race change coming sometime during the patch.

Guess we wait for the announcement of phase 2.

I mean there are plenty of game features that are against the RPG aspect of the game. How would you feel if they enabled this feature on all realms except for designated RP or RPPVP realms?

To add to this, I think this change would be healthy for the RPG aspect of the game since it allows the people who care about raid performance to also fulfill their class fantasy and how they want their character to look and what they identify with, while also remaining competitive. I don’t think it’s healthy for the game to have competitive PVP players flock to Human and PVE players flock to Orc and Troll exclusively. I think that damages the RPG aspect of the game.

Also, who’s to say that a Tauren in the WoW universe couldn’t learn how to shadowmeld?

I feel that since this thread represents your first post on the forum, and given it was a ludicrous suggestion, I won’t feel bad putting you on block.

Thank you for sharing

Since they have no intention of fixing garbage shadowmeld, I fully support this. Gimmie warstomp.

You do realize it’s completely broken, right?
