Make old fomo content earnable

a helpful link to all my friends (and non-friends) here who feel this way:

you can let go of the fear. you can be free!

I don’t have the fear. I’m just letting you know it’s a corporate marketing strategy.

It’s not just a Corporate marketing strategy… Time limited goods have always been around. When my kids won their state championships in Hockey they each got a gold medal, but also a limited edition USA Hockey State Champs hat. That hat color/variant will never be the same. I know this because we repeated the next year and the next year after that, and we all got to put on different variants of the hat with a new color scheme and the new year each time.

FOMO IS LIFE!

Yea I’m sure there’s some things that are really nice, but most of it is low res crap, or items that even after collectors “collect”, they won’t usem. I too cared about things a lot more until I realized I don’t use any of it ever. I just wear what’s new and fresh. Sure not everyone is me, but that’s just my views. Let the old die.

Because it’s always been a corporate strategy…

it was a thing before corporations specifically decided to use it for marketing. it’s part of the human experience.

Well if we’re going to get technical about things then every single thing in life is FOMO. You only have so much time in your life so you can’t experience everything. Right?

Digital FOMO is beyond stupid.

bingo! that’s one reason i think the complaints about it here are so silly.

it sure is. that’s why i choose not to be its prisoner.

Oh I’m not a “prisoner” but I’ll speak out against it every chance I get.

fair enough, there’s nothing wrong with speaking about things you believe are issues!

With everything else in life the formula tends to be:

Demand vs Scarcity = Price…

High demand items, appearances etc… when given limited availability = a much higher value. Some of the most amazing xmogs and mounts in the game are ignored because they are super common and nobody cares. People just want to be unique. It matters not if it’s digital or in real life.

Not sure why people are getting so nasty about it. Speak your piece, no need to be a dick about it tho.

When we’re talking about digital items this goes out the window.

How long have classic servers been around now?
First cm was in mop. No return since. Not even in remix.

Note the lack of posts and general outrage.
Thats proof enough. You don’t need to see a piechart or a link with studies for this.

People make it known when they are upset about something.

Cough ara trinket leavers cough
Prepatch currency being super undertuned and events not frequent enough… Cough

They do matter to people that like having unobtainable items. All of a sudden when YOU want it, it doesn’t matter. Until you decide to be a hypocrite like you are now.

No, the concept is the same. You do realize that most tangible goods in the world are intentionally withheld to raise value.

For example dairy farmers dump billions of gallons of milk each year to ensure there’s no market saturation and to keep costs high. Grain farmers store grains to make the price go up before they sell… Digital releases in card games just like real card games have limited editions to increase value. You can always make more things in the real world, just like you can copy/paste a digital item. Nobody does this because it causes values too depreciate. Value will always be placed on anything that is rare.

How long was the “wall of no” posted before classic servers became a thing?

Because GD is representation of the entire wow community…right?

AKA people who base their self worth on pixels they don’t even own.

I have 19 of the MT appearances. I wouldn’t care one single bit if everybody in the game had them. I have the original ZG raptor. STILL wouldn’t care if everyone in the entire game had it.

Your argument falls flat.

No, it’s not. There’s a limit to physical items that can be produced (for a profit or event) so those are limited. There’s not even remotely the same limitation on digital items. Don’t argue in bad faith. I’ll call you on it.
