Anyone else getting tired of all these level 1’s spamming your servers chat selling this or selling that? Bring back the days of spamming Thunderfury instead of all these “carries” that are more than likely scammers.
If you look into Advertisement LFG tool which does require certain levels to advertise on, that doesn’t solve the problem. Even having SMS/Auth requirement only helped for a short while.
Since the advertisers aren’t breaking any actual rules for the most part, this wouldn’t actually accomplish anything since the accounts aren’t being banned. You’d see a decrease in spam for a couple weeks then they’d be back at it.
Smaller scale sellers would just level a few toons to 30. You can start at 10 with Allied Races or whatever so it’s not exactly a long process.
Larger scale sellers would probably just buy boosts. They’d make up the cost of a couple boosts in a single carry run, of which they spam every 30 minutes all day anyway. (And let’s not pretend they’re not doing RMT out the back end, separate from the Trade advertisers – there’s no other reason to do it endlessly like they do).
So you’d like to see the same uproar as when the authenticator was made as part of the requirements for the group finder? And you don’t think they’ll easily and quickly level to 30? Because that’s not difficult.
You can solve your own issues with some addons. Otherwise, Blizz is going to make bank alts obsolete, more people quit and not solve your problem.
FWIW, I strongly feel that Blizzard needs to take a harsher and more aggressive stance on paid carry advertisements, in all public chat channels (and Group Finder). They need to be treated like in-game casino advertisements, in that the activity itself isn’t bannable (because it’s unenforceable), but publicly advertising it is (because it is enforceable).
Cleaning this mess up should not fall to the players.
I understand that addons exist if a player is just interested in getting it off their screen, but it doesn’t actually solve the problem. Blizzard needs to do that and they’ve apparently decided it’s not important enough to pursue more seriously.
I wish they would do that by giving us a bigger bank.
As for trade, I could live without it. But if it were gone spammers would just use city chat channels.
Wow! Ironic from someone that joined the forum 15 minutes ago and this is her/his only post.
Not a bad question to pose, but… really?
Nope. I’m too busy playing and not sitting idle in a main city hub
If it’s in Trade chat that’s fine. Trade chat is meant for that. General and Local Defence are meant for gameplay and it shouldn’t be in there.
For the longest time Trade was misused as a chat channel. Now that people are using it to actually sell stuff, other people are getting mad.
Probably half the ads I see are linking to RMT websites. What you’re talking about is a temporary effort to clean up trade chat once. A permanently assigned employee could turn this into a profit center for blizzard, if all the banned accounts are immediately going to buy more accounts - and sometimes boosts.
But there’s nothing wrong with advertising paid carries. This isn’t gambling. Guilds have been doing it for over a decade. It is a trade function. Even if they gave carries their own trade tab, you’d still see them in trade chat.
We’re not cleaning it up, we’re using the tools given to us so that we aren’t annoyed any longer.
The moment you ask Blizz to “clean it up,” is the moment we get things like “you have to have an authenticator to post.” Which also doesn’t work and in the end, we get hit with meaningless restrictions, all because people couldn’t use the tools they had to ignore what they don’t like.
That won’t stop it just delay it for a few days
Since half or more of ads link to RMT sites or are advertising bannable services (like mage tower piloting), and you support nothing being done about this situation, I guess we’d have to make assumptions about you.
Ah, so now we make things up. I see. I’m glad to know you can’t have an actual conversation about this topic and just wish to try to throw around nonsense.
And they’re in violation. As for the other half, they are using the tools provided to them from the game to do perfectly legitimate trades.
There is nothing wrong with trading something you’ve earned in game for any action in gam
Edit: every now and then I like to queue for a normal/heroic dungeon just to help speed through it for everyone in the dungeon.
I’ll also join a low level Torghast run and power through that for others.
Oh no! It’s a carry!…that’s perfectly legitimate and breaking no rules
But nothing is being done about those. Those are what I’m concerned about. But fine with you?
So do you want them to enforce their own rules or not? Sounds like…no.
Pretty bold claim. They have in game features to deal with them as well. It’s called report.
It’s well known blizzard does bans in waves and not on a daily basis.
Problem being, you will never fully get rid of the RMT advertisers no matter what you do
It would be better if I could choose what levels I want to see. The rest would be muted.
For example I would like to only see general posts from people who are five levels below me and those five levels above me.
And what about those below 30 that need help or want to TRADE something?
Badboy addon cleans up chat. Get the modules, Badboy_guilded stops guild spam, Badboy_ccleaner lets you custom filter things like runs, politics, anal, Covid, etc. Get all the modules and chat is nice and clean. It also has an unlimited ignore feature.
